What would Eisenhower have said?

Live from June 6, 1944:

This is John Smith, reporting live from the beaches of Normandy, where Allied troops have launched a massive invasion aiming to defeat the Axis."

"John, this is Bob Brown back in the studio. Can you tell us when General Eisenhower thinks the first Allied troops can start to come home?"

"What the . . ?"

Beware the military-industrial complex.

I think he might ask a rhetorical question.  The NY Times endorsed him for President in 1956, it's been nearly a half century (48 years) since the Times has endorsed another Republican.  Why?  ::)   Perhaps it was because he wasn't really a Republican or a Democrat.  If there was a centrist party, Ike would have belonged to it.

Here are my very favorite Ike quotes (though I must say I do not agree with him on many many many things)

"An atheist is a man who watches a Notre Dame - Southern Methodist University game and doesn't care who wins."

"History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid."

"How far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without?"

"I have only one yardstick by which I test every major problem - and that yardstick is: Is it good for America? "

Murffieus

After the war the Dems tried hard to recruit Ike as their candidate!

But the point is -----Ike would have told that reporter that the troops will be coming home after we have won the war and achieved victory!

The Dems started to lose their nerve during the late 60s and early 70s in regard to defending the country----prior to that Wilson, Roosevelt,Truman, Kennedy (all democrats) sponsored our participation in World Wars 1 & 2 then Korea and then Vietnam-----what's happened to their party since----it's been captured by socialist thinking leftisits!

Mr. Roberts, please cut down that tree.

Murf, by your logic, the R's have been captured by neo-con crypto-fascists who believe it is ok to start pre-emptive war with anyone, anytime, and it is ok simply because we are Americans.    Silly name calling.

"It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers. In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late. Accordingly, I am readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and I will, in turn, do my best for the Cause by writing editorials - after the fact." - Robert E. Lee, 1863 (borrowed from Lucianne.com)

"I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are...If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world, but I am sure we would be getting reports from Hell before breakfast... ...I think I understand what military fame is; to be killed on the field of battle and have your name misspelled in the newspapers."

"Sure, we want to go home. We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the bastards who started it. The quicker they are whipped, the quicker we can go home. The shortest way home is through Berlin and Tokyo. And when we get to Berlin, I am personally going to shoot that paper hanging son-of-a-bitch Hitler. Just like I'd shoot a snake!"

I guess this is funny, when its not your kid in the field.

Iraq is a political & a military issue. we need to change the political strategy now.

I don't see any humor in it at all, not sure what you are referencing Marc?

Now, what political strategy would you like to change?  Redeployment?  That doesn't sound like a political change, that's a military change.

hmm.. actually not a bad idea murf.. would help reduce greenhouse gases and probably encourage stronger families because people wouldn't travel very much then.. which in turn would generally lead to more common moral values, etc.  Not to mention that broadband would probably be a very popular service and reach a greater geographic area plus at faster speeds due to the rise of more telecommuting..

quick publish it before gore thinks of all that!
