"I see no upgrade at the top but an improvement at the bottom. If X can't challenge for top of the conference on a regular basis, we need a new coach. Butler will be tough to beat and losing to GT, Nova and Marquette on occasion is acceptable but we should be ahead of all but Butler most years.

Butler has the best coach. They are the best program at this point. Had VCU joined they would be right there with Butler as 1 and 2 in the conference. The top of this new BE is a step behind. History is a different thing as the BE schools have a large advantage.

I expect we will continue to schedule the best of the A-10 in non conference as they will help the SOS. I'm sure the AD will look at who was good the prior season and who is returning and try to arrange games with those teams. If we do that I won't really miss any of the teams."

Not surprising, he's most familiar with Butler at this point. He'll learn.

Every fanbase has a moron.  I'd rather our fanbase had more "cocky" and less afraid, paranoid negative Nancy.

This guys sounds more like an A10 homer, than a Xavier one

Of the 10 teams in the new conference, only 3 did not make the NCAA or NIT.  Xavier, Seton Hall and DePaul.  X should be thankful it got in.

Chicos' Buzz Scandal Countdown

Hope Xavier does turn out to be that strong that it would consistently beat two of the BEast champions from this year. Don't think they're close to handling that grind but we weren't exactly expected to thrive when we came over from CUSA

It's a whole different world when you have to be up for every single game, including DePaul and Seton Hall, and can't just focus on a few key games and hit cruise control through the rest of your schedule.  Marquette responded well when we joined the Big East, we'll see if Xavier, Butler and Creighton can.

One thing a lot people forget with a ten team league is that in the current A-10, you play so few teams twice.  Now you play EVERYONE twice.  Sure, Depaul & Seton Hall COULD be four gimmies (we will see how they look next, year, never know) but after that there are 14 tough games.

As Litehouse said, you will not have half of your schedule of easy teams.  Now maybe 29% (4 of 14) are easier.

This year was an aberration. X has fared far better than most in the post-season in recent history  despite not being in a stellar conference over the years:

Defeated Lehigh in second round, 70-58
Lost to Baylor in regional semifinal, 75-70

2011
0-1
Lost to Marquette in first round, 66-55

2010

Defeated Minnesota in first round, 65-54
Defeated Pittsburgh in second round, 71-68
Lost to Kansas State in regional semifinal, 101-96

2009
2-1
Defeated Portland State in first round, 77-59
Defeated Wisconsin in second round, 60-49
Lost to Pittsburgh in regional semifinal, 60-55

2008
3-1
Defeated Georgia in first round, 73-61
Defeated Purdue in second round, 85-78
Defeated West Virginia in regional semifinal, 79-75
Lost to UCLA in regional final, 76-57

2007

2003

While Xavier will not be winning the new BE next season, let's not discount the level of their program.  They have had arguably the most success out of anyone in the conference in the last 10 years.  4 sweet sixteens, and one elite appearance in the last 5 seasons alone.  Not too shabby.
