The 8th most likely first round upset goes to.......

(8) No. 14 Davidson Wildcats versus No. 3 Marquette Golden Eagles

Upset chance: 25.3 percent

What you need to know: The Wildcats can shoot from anywhere and hardly ever turn the ball over.

I don't disagree. We have one of our patented less than stellar games on a court not named after Al McGuire and we could be in trouble.

Somebody is gonna get upset. It's hubris to think it couldn't be us.
We Are Marquette

MU82

It's an easy upset to pick.

As I say in my scouting report on another thread, Davidson is very experienced, smart and well-coached. They have talent and they have played other top-shelf opponents well. I believe they are seeded too low.

I'm a Marquette guy and I think we'll win, but if I were unaffiliated and I looked at the overall landscape, I could see looking at this game and saying, "Yeah, that's a possible 14-over-3 upset."

We're only 3 or 4 point favorites, which seems pretty darn low for a 3-vs.-14, no?

Different year. Same crap.

Doesn't matter who it is, it's always a bad matchup for MU.

And sometimes -- Tulsa ... Holy Cross ... Alabama -- it is.

Personally I love when people pick us as being upset or being the underdog. It makes it that much better when we win.

AirPunches

3 seeds are 96-16 against 14's. I like the 86% odds.

We should destroy them.  Not worried at all because I don't think we're that inept.  And with two more days to get comfortable we'll also look just fine in the second game.  Just remember to bring Steve Taylor on the trip, Buzz.

So, is there ever a good matchup for MU??? I hear this nonsense every single year. If MU can't get past Davidson, I don't know what to say.

warriorstrack

East bracket being discussed on ESPNU right now.  I love the respect MU got with the seed, the talking heads are just that.

This is one of the biggest sporting events of the year and their are hundreds and hundreds of "professional opinions" about who is going to win what.

If you look  hard enough you can find someone predicting that every team will win and lose every second round game (remember the first round of Tuesday).

So what

This. Sweet 16 is right in front of us we play like we know we can. Butler and Davidson were the type of team I thought we wanted (i.e., no press, not great D, slow, not as athletic, good shooters, don't pressure the ball).

So they are basically saying that we are twice as likely to lose as a normal 3-14 matchup.  That seems reasonable.

Yep, seriously the best draw we could have hoped for.  It's on us to play far more than some behemoth standing in our way.  I'd take this draw over any of the other 3 seed pods.  Catch Miami on an @Wake or vs. Georgia Tech day either Friday, Sunday, or in the S16, and there's an E8 possibility.

That's why I'm so frustrated by some of the comments here. If I told you MU's path to the Sweet 16 went thru Davidson and Butler/ Bucknell, wouldn't you take that? I would in a heartbeat.

Much better than playing a rangy athletic team like Louisville.

Last year the Wildcats were ousted 69-62 in the second round of the tournament by a Louisville team that eventually went to the Final Four.

I'll take it a step further. If you are a 3 seed, you should expect to be playing on the second weekend of the tournament. Nothing in the NCAA tournament comes easy. But when you are a 3, you should be one of the last 16 teams still playing.
