Who cares, but then he says

But not the latest [the Cuse, Pitt, and Ville raid, as opposed to previous "raid" taking Miami, BC, and Vtech] influx of raids on the  Big East, which were orchestrated by  Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Here's why.

Two years ago when the Big East was doing its usual March Madness dance with a record 11 teams in the NCAA tournament, with teams such as UConn , Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Louisville and even Villanova dominating the Top 20 rankings, Coach K fretted over the declining prestige of the Atlantic Coast Conference in basketball.

Oh, not at Duke or North Carolina, but overall, the ACC had declined in the quality of its depth. The bottom feeders of the ACC were losing battles not only against other second-tier teams from major conferences, but the ACC was also losing games against the mid majors and even the low mid major teams.

Coach K and Duke athletic director Kevin White came up with a war plan, which would ostensibly help the ACC in football, where the conference was simply not a player on the national level, but was really designed to boost ACC basketball.

Although the prevailing wisdom was that the addition of Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the ACC was a football dictated move, it was really pushed forward by Duke to boost the ACC to the top-tier in basketball.

Coming from anybody else, I'd say "get out of my town, you jackass," but Jerseyguy has cred.  Plenty of it, in fact.  Is Coach K the de facto leader of the conference?  Or was he just able to convince the football-schools of the ACC that his (K's) interests just so happen to align perfectly with theirs?

If this is true, sending 11 teams to the tourney was actually bad for the Big East...who knew?

This. Coach K does not pull the strings. Football does. But he recognized an opportunity that allowed him to leverage Football to align with Duke's and the ACC's baskeball interests. Smart move on his part. But don't give him more credit (or blame, depending on your perspective) than he is due.

I believe every bit of it. In fact I thought that from the beginnning.  He probably started losing recruits to the Big East and jumped at the opportunity to do some damage to it.

If Duke dropped football I think the NBE could carve out a spot for them.

Not in name but if UNC jumps and leads another exodus, the American Athletic Conference (AAC) will become the ACC.  Then the AAC will become CUSA and so on.

I doubt there will be a mass exodus from the ACC.
