He makes so many dumb plays.  I mean he's a lock for 4 WTF are you doing plays a game.  Right after he'll grab a nice rebound or a put back he makes the mind-numbingly dumb TO's.....

When plays his role he is GREAT asset to the team, but as soon as he tries bringing up the ball, forcing a drive to the lane it's a guaranteed turnover.

CTWarrior

The thing about Lockett is that he is so smart he is enticing.  He gets the step on his defender and gets into the lane as well as anyone we have, but once he gets there he rarely makes a good pass or shot.  I think he really sees the floor well, but physically is not quick enough or a good enough ballhandler or shooter to take full advantage of it.

I saw that last year he averaged 3.2 turnovers versus 2.2 assists, so clearly this isn't a new development (at least decision making) but he's shooting career lows as well in FG and 3PT percentage, probably due to the initial adjustment period.  Not good for a 5th year senior, no sugarcoating it.

🏀

Lockett spends more time on the offensive floor than the offensive and defensive boards.

Galway Eagle

Probably a development problem. If he'd been under a better coach at ASU he'd be excellent.

Lockett had a bad game. Nothing offensively but I give him credit: he's the only guard that successfully attacks the boards and gets the offensive rebounds.

Unfortunately, he hasn't shown his stroke for some time.

Or fouling shooters beyond the arc...
Relax. Respect the Process.

He made one rally bad play at a crucuial time. The other times I thought he was fouled, but nothing was called.

esotericmindguy

I'm still wondering how that man averaged 13 a game in the PAC 10?

That's what I can't figure out.  He does seem to be a smart player, but I don't understand how he continuously makes the same mistakes.  You would think by now he would understand his limits and role on the team.

Fundamentally weak and slow as molasses is a recipe to turn it over.

I intended to start this same thread but someone beat me to it. Glad to see others feel the same way about Lockett. For some reason Buzz seems to be in love with the guy though. Every time Lockett touches the ball it's a 50/50 chance of a turnover, and I cringe whenever he tries to pass especially if someone is guarding him tight. 5 turnovers and 2 points?!?!? And how many of those turnovers led directly to points on the other end? Not only that, he failed to get out and guard Connaughton on at least a couple of his threes. That makes all the difference in an 8 point game. Lockett is more of a liability than an asset every time he steps on the court. We'd be WAY better off if Mayo got his minutes instead.

Please Buzz, LESS Lockett MORE Mayo!!!

4everwarriors

Mayo, really? He seems totally disengaged or interested. Maybe aloof or loner would be a better description.

I'd rather have Steve or Juan get his minutes.  Mayo has been disappointing this year as well.

Ellenson Guerrero

I think the majority of Juan and Lockett's minutes should be split up between Wilson and Taylor

Mayo is way overrated, not quick enough, makes bad decisions with the ball.  Average shooter, but in saying that, it is hard to get in the flow of the game when he plays 2 minutes and is
taken out.

NavinRJohnson

He was bad. In fairness, he has been pretty good lately (for what he is), and this was the forts time he played in the Big East Tournament. I think it would be foolish to assume that didn't have some effect on him.

He had a turnover early in the second half where he picked up a loose ball, dribbled it down, and attempted to dribble between two defenders just over half court, turned it over, and immediately fouled. Absolutely awful. The cameras immediately captured both Buzz and Wainright, and the looks of frustration on their faces pretty much told the story of the game. Took a positive and found a way to turn it into a negative.

Disagree completely. Mayo didn't look much better and his turnstile  reaching defense in the St john's game was infuriating.  Maybe more Taylor and less Lockett. Mayo won't give you the rebounding that Lockett does.

Lockett had a bad game no doubt, but he has improved considerably from earlier in the year and has seemed to find his niche on the team. Just a few days ago many here were praising his improvement. He wasn't the only one to have a bad game last night.

Have you seen how down the PAC-12 has been the last few years?

2012 2 of 12 made NCAA
2011 4 of 10
2010 2 of 10

It's not like he was playing against great competition. In 2009 they got 6 in but that was before Trent got there.

4th and State

But that's pretty much who Lockett is.  That kind of turnover happens at least 2-3 times a game.  He just doesn't learn and that's his problem.

augoman

I get the feeling that mayo has attitude prob some games caused by his expectation of more pt.  I, too, would rather see Taylor than Juan on occasion... Last night for example.  I was waiting for mayo to launch a 3 every time he hit the court.

I'm with you.  I'd rather we went big at this point.

PG - Cadougan
SG - Blue
SF- J Wilson
PF - Taylor
C - Otule/Gardner

I think that may be our best lineup at this point.  The one thing I will say about Mayo is that if you want to play Mayo, play him.  When we play him in fits and spurts, it seems like when he gets in he feels like he has TO DO SOMETHING and do it soon, force a drive, take a shot.  I think he might be more likely to let the game come to him and play more under control if he knew he was getting extended minutes.  That's just a theory of, course.  I actually have no idea.

OK, I don't care if it's Mayo or Taylor I just don't want to see Lockett getting so many minutes when he's become a liability on the floor. At least with Mayo you've got a guy who can heat up quickly and give you some points from the outside. You don't get that with Taylor or Anderson. Mayo just needs to get his confidence back and he can't do that from the bench. My two cents...
