Texas is a great state and is doing well right now, unlike much of the country.  There are parts that are a moonscape, like west Texas (where I'm originally from).  I wouldn't live there at all.  Austin, pretty nice place to live. Houston, no thanks, though some of the burbs are nice.  Dallas and Fort Worth, pretty nice.

State that size, you can find plenty of nice things about it.

Texas is ok. I used to go to San Antonio a lot for USAF bidness and I owned a home in Plano when I was with PepsiCo. Plano HS would pack almost 20,000 into the stands for a prep game.

I would never put up with Houston's climate but west Texas is superb. Big Bend is one of the real gems of our National Park Service.
