Unlike MU where many students come from WI & Chicago, most of GT's student body does not come from close proximity to DC.  Just like the Milwaukee fans that have no affiliation with MU, they choose to support the state school rather than the local private school.

They also play on the other side of town from their campus making it a pain to get too ... Think DePaul.

It's couple of Metro stops! No comparison with DePaul.

You know this how? GW is in DC. Maryland plays once a year at the Verizon Center.

My father was a fighter pilot so we moved around the world but DC was our most common stopping ground. I also lived there as an adult. There were several MU grads in DC in the late 80's and we  used to go to see GT play all the time. Always walked up and got tickets. This was when the BE was ridiculous  and included games against SU, St Johns when Lou was there, Nova under Rollie, SHU under PJ, PC under Pitino. Today's bottom feeders were ranked powers.

GU has always refused to play the Terps, especially when Lefty was the coach, so there has always been animosity between the communities. Nobody at GU gives a seconds thought to the other schools - GW, AU, Catholic, GMU, JMU, etc.. A Terp would never go to see GT and vice versa.
