It has been alluded to in the past, but maybe we will now see DG take more face up shots the rest of the season?  It has been said that inn practice and shoot around, he hits consistently from the mid range.  Not that he is getting any lift on those shots...he looks like Bob Cousey out here...but, if he has an open look, why not?  He shot with confidence tonight and he seems to be undefended on the perimeter.

Great win Marquette.  One of the best wins in the last couple of years.

ronald dragon

I say let him take it if he is feeling it, today he showed how much confidence can play a role in shooting.

the guy hits 80 plus % from the line. It shouldn't be a surprise he can hit an open 15 footer. Plus, with his passing ability and hands, the high post is a nice spot for him.

Earl Tatum

The "A" Team showed up tonight. How about Ox?
Thought Taylor was a body presence inside, freeing Ox.
GREAT WIN!! WE ARE MARQUETTE!!!!!

Ox and Steve should be our zone bustes. Good high low action with the two of them no matter who catches it at the FT line. They're both perfect for the role and a perfect complement to the other when not the one catching the entry.

Can hit the shot, make a move to the rim if there's space, or make a solid pass.  Like seeing the opportunities up top.  That's where solid minutes by Otule and Taylor alongside come in to make that happen.

True...I guess the value has been seen in getting the ball to him in the  post.  If we can keep in the game for more than 20 minutes..maybe he really is a reliable zone busting option.

I think we're also forgetting that the Otule/Gardner combination was extremely effective as Otule sealed out the inside man for Gardner to operate from the high post.

I agree in man situations where you can spread the D and get him into a one on one situation or with a double team coming once the ball gets inside. Against a zone D that is hard to penetrate with a pass into the block, and if you do it collapses, I like the idea of getting him the ball with some space at the high post. That said, I think Steve Taylor will be perfect there as well as he gets more comfortable b/c he can hit that shot, and has more quickness to be able to drive if they jump out at him. Pretty nice weapons to have in the arsenal.

I love him taking that shot.

My poor wife (a fellow Marquetter) is getting tired of hearing me say we need to have him work out of the high post sometimes and just take that 15-to-17-footer when he's unguarded. Except for a layup, we won't get a higher percentage shot.

We have so many pieces that can fit together, in so many different ways.  Buzz has definitely been open to trying combos that work, Gardner/Otule  on floor together creates opportunities not seen in other line-ups

Gardner after the game:

''I know I didn't play well against Villanova. I didn't have a good game, so I decided I'd play my best against Syracuse and try to get my team a win.''

Good that he knows he didn't play well the other night.

Now, let's hope he "decides" to play his best the rest of the season!
