Hello Scoopers,

A buddy and I have decided to start a weekly podcast around Marquette basketball and wanted to share it with this community.  Not saying its fantastic, or even very good, but haven't seen something like this out there and we both love MU and would talk about it anyway, might as well share with the masses.

Please listen and let us know what you think.  We did have an issue with one of the audio lines, so we'll fix that for next week but other than that any feedback is welcome.  Also if you like it or want certain topics discussed let us know, we'll try and figure it out.

Hopefully this will be going up on iTunes this week as well if you want to download it to your iPod

Appreciate the time and consideration

Good luck, I'm a big proponent of podcasting. Absolutely think it is the wave of the future and that terrestrial radio (and maybe XM radio) are dying.

However, you should change your name NOW. Scrambled Eggs is too random. Cute, but you'll get hammered in internet listings. You need to at least add a tagline like, "Scrambled Eggs: A Weekly Discussion of Marquette Basketball." I personally think you need to consider maybe "Scrambled Eagle Eggs." It's a bit alliterative and ties in MU Golden Eagles. Again, just a thought.

Look at all the top rankings on iTunes and how they have a descriptive tagline or the name of the show is what it is, a la "The Adam Carolla Show."

Get links on MUScoop, Cracked Sidewalks, etc. Ask MU for some juice, even a tweet about your podcast. All of this stuff is free, will just take a little elbow grease.

Get a cool logo.

Do everything you can to get listed on itunes and then beg, borrow, steal and otherwise do everything you can to get your friends/family/fans to 1) subscribe to the podcast and 2) to give you mucho stars and a favorable review. This will move you up in the rankings.

Good luck!

Be that as it may, no one hears "Scrambled Eggs" and thinks of Marquette basketball.

Avenue is correct, and I think the name can stick, but we do need to expand out the title, and we'll be doing that with the iTunes launch.  Just wanted to get the podcast up and out quick to get feedback before we blow it out too much.

I quickly looked and didn't see an RSS feed -- when (or if) you have one, ping me back. I can get you added to the @MUHoops twitter feed.

Exactly. Therein lies the problem. I like the name, too, its cute and clever, but in the massive expanse of the Internets it will get lost.

Sometimes tone doesn't translate well on the Internet. I hope you know I was trying to be helpful and wish you all the luck in the world. Go get 'em.

Absolutely, no insult taken, it was good feedback and confirmed what we were thinking.  I don't write too good, that's why I chose a podcast  ;D

"Scrambled eggs" is the  term that Al used to call his reserves who he would send into the game to play at frenzy speed to change the tempo of the game.  They would play at warp speed for several minutes and then be replaced by the starters.  The "scrambled eggs" was an Al original and were very effective.

The same could be said for Cracked Sidewalks.

Significantly more MU fans know the meaning of "Cracked Sidewalks" than "Scrambled Eggs."

Listened to it all at work today. Nice job. I plan on listening in the future.

Also I like the name Scrambled Eggs.

Uh, you must not have been around when Mr Al McGuire was the Marquette coach...

The first year Coach McGuire inherited a terrible team from Coach Red Hickey. In those days, freshmen were not eligible for varsity competition and played their own schedule. In addition, teams had Junior Varsity squads that also played a slate of games. The J-V's were basically the varsity scrubs. The J-V's pre-game meal was always scrambled eggs and steak - protein being king and all.

This J-V meal was to become associated with Coach McGuire and the Marquette Warriors for years to come, though it seems to have disappeared into the mist in recent years.

Anyway, Coach McGuire's team was so bad in 64-65 that (probably out of desperation) he came up with the idea of the starting five being replaced by what, in essence, was the J-V team. The role of these scrubs, who were all good guys, but really not very good basketball players, was to press, press, hustle, hustle, and generally run around like chickens with their heads cut off in an effort to create havoc.

Well, it worked. The Warriors got some wins, including an up-set of then 7th ranked St. John's and another over Loyola on a last second jumper from Rochy Cavelli. In one game, Coach McGuire was so up-set with his starting 5 that the "Eggs" played the entire second half.

The "Eggs" got a fair amount of national (read New York) press, and the issue of two platoon basketball became a hot topic for about 15 minutes.

Coach McGuire never again used the concept of the "Eggs", or a full team substitution. However, the "Eggs" established the concept of changing the flow of a game. A trick that McGuire used all the time with his changing defenses, many of which he readily admitted were "Mickey Mouse" defenses.

It took Coach Williams a few years, but he now seems to have embraced the concept of changing the flow of game, by changing into a new defense, including a "Mickey Mouse" defense. (This evolution must have been difficult for Coach Williams who seemed to believe real men only played man-to-man defense.)

The best example of Coach Williams' embracing something from 50 years ago is the 3-2 (not 2-3) zone he threw at Pittsburg with the 2 being Gardner and Otule.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Agreed, solid listen, especially once the audio gets evened out.
