What we do know, from Wade himself, is that he connected with the man and that's why he came to MU.

wade was a partial qualifier and had offers from MU DePaul, and Eastern Illinois.

wade was a partial qualifier and had offers from MU, DePaul, and Eastern Illinois.

And go read why he went to MU.... ::)  It was in an article AGAIN just last week and posted on this board.  He has said over and over and over again why he came to Marquette, but for some reason you refuse to actually listen to him.  Same reason why so many others came to MU, out of their own mouths, but you refuse to listen to them, as if the actual players that played here don't count.  Their beliefs, their reasons for coming, don't count...they are dismissed by you.

http://www.foxsportsflorida.com/01/31/13/Bond-between-Wade-Crean-remains-strong/landing_heat.html?blockID=857067&feedID=10140

Wade and Crean have a unique relationship, one that was born in the summer of 1999 when Wade was a raw prep prospect entering his senior year at Richards High School outside Chicago. After spending three seasons at Marquette (2001-03), Wade said goodbye to the campus when he bolted to the pros in 2003, but his relationship with Crean has remained intact.

“He came into my life when I needed a father figure, a role model,’’ said Wade, whose parents had divorced when he was young and whose mother had been a drug addict, of Crean taking him under his wing after he had enrolled at Marquette in the fall of 2000 and was academically ineligible to play as a freshman. “He was somebody I trusted from Day 1. I put all my trust in him . . . He was one of the first men that I was comfortable with telling him that I love him.’’

It was funny seeing them together on TV. Made Ox look petite. That guy's a lunk though. Can't move, jump, run, shoot but hey he's massive.

Look at the USF forum and they say the guy's a wasted scholarship.

I'll always root against him.  But I don't need to start threads about it.  Just like I will always cheer against KO.  Part of me chuckled when he got canned.

It is alright if some people don't want to cheer for the guy; and it is just fine if people want to.

Agree, it's ok not to cheer for the guy, to each their own. It's the double standard hypocrisy which is the funny part.  Personally, he gave me great memories and the best MU basketball in 30 years...stayed for 9 years, left for a better program and better school which happens to be another alma mater.  So it worked out for me.  Majerus left, I still wanted him to do well.  Deane left, was pleased as punch when he took Wagner and Lamar to the NCAAs.  KO left...well he didn't do anything after he left with one exception at Arizona.  People move on. When Buzz leaves, I hope he continues to have success.  No need being bitter when coaches leave, but I get why some fans do.

And there are people like you who get butthurt about us making fun of him and feel the need to come into every thread and swing your dick around like a big man instead of just ignoring the threads because God forbid someone have an opinion different than yours, oh mighty, wise and all-knowing Comic Book Guy.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Guy with a crummy job, living at home, who spends his time on-line jerkin off to internet smut then swaggerin around the Al like he's the BMOC.

You continue to amaze me with the viciousness of your attacks.  It could lead one to speculate.....
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

That argument works both ways, right?  You could say that Buzz should have taken us to a Final Four by now, especially if the terrible previous coach did?  You could say if we didn't hire Buzz and hired someone else, we might have gone to a Final Four.  That argument can be used on anything because it is impossible to prove.

What we do know, from Wade himself, is that he connected with the man and that's why he came to MU.  So, would another coach have led him to MU?  Maybe, impossible to know but we can play the what-if game forever if you wish with our current or former coaches.  The facts are, he was here, we did get a Final Four, we did get Novak, we did get Wade, we did get Diener, we did get Wes, Lazar, DJ, JM, etc.  Would we have still gotten them?  Maybe.  Would we have gotten even better players?  Maybe.  Would we have had worse players?  Maybe.  Play this game forever.  You can only go by what actually happened and what the comments were of the players that actually played at MU and WHY they chose MU.

Yes, the argument works both ways. All you can really prove/cite are the results and history. You can say "Crean was here and we had Novak, Wade, FF, etc." You can also say "Another coach could have been here and we might have had Novak, Wade, FF, etc." The post I quoted originally is trying to say "If Crean weren't here, we wouldn't have had Novak, Wade, FF, etc" and that's simply not true.

I understand you may hope to believe what you write but the bolded shows you're still stuck.

Crean didn't "do" anything to Marquette. To think so is to be blinded by hurt. And if you are firm in your belief that Crean did "do" something to Marquette it has worked out very well for both him and Indiana as well as our program. So why the childish grudges from so many?

And I've never met a fan of any program, basketball or otherwise, that "hates" a former coach who didn't set progress back years except for MU people. Hell, fracking Dukiet gets a longer leash than Crean. That's weird.

I really don't think that Dukiet gets a longer leash, its just that there is no disagreement concerning Dukiet.

I would say that TC brought MU back to where we are now.  Better off with Buzz, but without TC, no DWade, no Steve Novak, at others. no Final Four.  NO job is forever, and Indiana is probably a bigger opportunity, no one likes how he walked out, but so what, any way you look at it, it was not going to be easy.  We have not missed a beat, had fun and did not have 3 years of bad teams.  The fan base for Indy is insane, I which MU could draw fans like they do.  Do you think MU could draw 17,000 for 3 years as bad as Indy was?

You are confused.  You seem to think that this thread is about Tom Crean.  Actually, it is about talking about Tom Crean.

The only thing that pisses me off about the Crean thing is the non-Marquette fans it brings to these various threads.  Not talking about guys like Chicos who are Marquette supporters.

I am talking about the smattering of losers who frequent this board talking down the program whenever a Crean bash happens.

Go cheer for your own team.

Rant off. Please continue with the smack talk.....

As an alum who witnessed the beginning of the golden age of basketball during the Al era I am pleased with where we are at present. I wish coach Crean all the success in the world except when he plays MU. If we were in his position which one of us would not jump at a chance to resurrect a storied program like IU. He brought MU back and now with Buzz some of us believe we have a chance at another title. It's a win win for all of us. What is there to complain about?

But....

We're not Kentucky  (although few would complain),

Crean is not Tubby Smith, and

Buzz is not Calipari.

So, what are you saying?

I'm grateful for what Kevin O'Neill and Tom Cream did for Marquette Basketball.  If Crean hadn't arrived when he did, Marquette would probably be like DePaul is right now.  He was a salesman and was able to recruit and get the students back to going to the games.  I didn't particularly care for how he left, but he did leave for a top-tier job. What gives me an indication about his character was his presser after getting beat by Illinois.  First words that I heard were:  "I don't want to assign blame for this loss, because I don't want to throw anyone under the bus."  By saying that he threw the team under the bus and said I'm not responsible.

Bottom line, I'm happy that Crean coached at Marquette and made us relevant again and even happier that Buzz is here now.
