Ladies and gentlemen....As dawn breaks on February 3rd, Marquette stands ALONE.  Let's play like champions this day.

Feels good but champions are forged on the road

I suspect they watched Pitt/'Cuse together in Louisville... Then looked to each other with a simple nod.  Business gentlemen.

Extremely. Plus, the whole "play like champions" thing makes me squirmy. They should play like their fake girlfriends all died. All kidding aside, we arent even at the half-way pole yet...

Marquette alone in first

With Syracuse's 65-55 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday, Marquette moved into first place alone in the Big East.

You nervous Nellies.....

Of course there's a very long way to go.  Just enjoy.  (Plus I have wonderful memories from the Yum.)

Highly doubt they watched those games together.

Why would you guys think that?  Not like Buzz has let them go party on 4th Street.

More surprising than leading the league is leading the league in rebounding margin.  MU has generally struggled with rebounding margin since I've been watching (post-Maurice Lucas era).  For the first time in MU's time in the Big East they are throwing up a +5.1.  Says a lot to me.  This is after playing Cincy, Pitt and Georgetown.  For me, this is crazier than MU leading the league in record right now.  Also - last in 3pt %.  Beatin' people up -- Trent Lockett style.

Probably right. From Hank to Crean we couldn't land a true 5. Otule might not fit since he had that 8" growth spurt in HS.

When the season started the top team in the Big East was in the top 5. Now the top team in the Big East is ranked 25!

Yes, considering some are spooging their pants simply because MU sits a half game in front thanks to some schedule quirks and acting like it's a great accomplishment.

The Warriors have been atop the league (of higher quality) deeper into the season before today. It matters very little.

Just having fun Golden viewing the glass half full.  And when were we in first on Superbowl Sunday before?  I clearly remember the great start the Three Amigos had that one year but don't recall still leading the league this deep in.

Anyway, I'm simply hoping we play an outstanding game today with a shot to win in the end.  And then I'm cheering for the Niners because my very good friend from SF is at the game.

On Feb 21, 2009, we were tied for 2nd in the Big East with Louisville and Pitt at 12-2. UConn was in first place at 13-2. The latest we were ever in 1st I believe was that year. We were 9-0 going into the USF game on Feb 6. When we lost and went to 9-1, UConn moved a half-game ahead of us at 10-1.

If we win today and beat USF it would guarantee the latest point of the season we ever had 1st place all alone as the start of business on Monday, Feb 11.

Because yes...I do think that beating DePaul on Feb 9 is a complete and utter guaran-damn-tee.

Thanks for this good info, brew.

I agree with some others that it doesn't really "matter" in the grand scheme, but it sure is fun to be in first place at any point of any season -- always better than any alternative! A win today and I will be VERY happy during our annual Super Bowl party, and not just because of the libations I will be enjoying!!

Losses are easy, wins are hard. There are 7 teams tied with 6 wins in the Big East.

I don't know man. Not is a guarantee. Cause I would have bet my shorts that we would have beat Greenbay. Glad I spared myself of that humiliation.

Let's see it in your signature line then!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I wouldn't have. I thought that was a dangerous game and said so beforehand. But playing Green Bay on the road in the game that was Green Bay's Super Bowl (and the only one that city gets this season) was always going to be difficult. But this is DePaul...

...and until DePaul does something worth me noticing, they will get no place in my signature line. If this was a road game, maybe, maybe they would have a 20-1 change of beating us. At the BC? No way no how. Our starting 5 could all sit out and we would still beat them.
