let the "rivalry" begin:

"After much hoopla regarding the renewal of the series between UWM and Marquette, it will finally come to fruition Nov. 30 on the Golden Eagles' home court. The teams will meet for the first time since Dec. 8, 1998, when MU downed UWM, 77-56. A game time has not been determined."

After all the noise and finger pointing coming from the east side, it is good to have this one back on the schedule. It will generate much interest, especially the first couple years. UWM will consider this their Superbowl. Their 3,000 fans will nicely fill in the upper bowl corners and top rows.

Whether you consider it a rivalry or not, you've gotta know the the BC will be rocking for a Friday night game against UWM.

UWM finally wants a shot at MU, and MU fans finally want UWM fans to shut up. I realize on a national scale that this game has little interest, but locally it will be a pretty big day at the BC and surrounding area.

I predict that MU will run them out of the building. I don't know of any bad blood between Jeter and Crean, but I think Coach Crean might use this game as an early season statement given the amount of media "jockying" that was going on between the 2 schools (although, I don't recall Crean ever running up the score in the past).

I agree that this game will draw alot of local interest.  I know far more people from h.s. that went to UWM then I do ppl that went to Madison.  I think that fire that comes with having ppl close to you going to competing schools will really show during these games as they do for the UW/MU games.  But we're still 34 or 35 (whatever) and 0 against them so I think their flames will quickly diminish after we run them out the building and back to the east side.

Call me old school, but I don't think the BC will be that much more rocking than when we've played them in the past, which was basically no different than playing Coppin St.  We've never even come close to selling that game out in the past.  I don't think most Marquette fans give two hoots about playing UWM other than just shutting their fans up, which to me doesn't breed sustained excitement.  Admittedly though, the fact that we're playing them on a Friday night as opposed to a early Sat. afternoon should help ticket sales and the atmosphere, so maybe I'll be wrong afterall.  Regardless, UWM had a good 2-3 yr run with Pearl at the helm, got a huge ego, but fell back down to earth last year.  If we take a quick lead, the crowd will die down, and you won't even realize we're playing a so-called rival.

With all the crap the Badger and Panther fans have given to MU, and undeservedly I might add, about this game, I think the atmosphere will be higher than you believe.  Many will want to not only win, but crush them.

Frankly, I was tired of the onesidedness of the debate and how UWM and thier fan(s) tried to paint MU as the bad guy, then cried when MU called them on their bluff.

Next year it will go back to being another game.  This year, though, it will be slightly different.
