Obtained through a public records request of email correspondence of USF President Judy Genshaft, a Big East chair, starting Dec. 10, the MCA spells out several questions about the timing of the separation (scheduled July 30, 2015), the Big East namesake, the licensing agreement at Madison Square Garden and other "relative property" to sort out.

Anyone still think a public school will be easily admitted after seeing this? Sorry VCU.

Interesting scenarios on MSG.  It's obviously desired.

Why not two conferences:
C-7 remains "The Big East" Conference
The remainder become "The Big East Football" Conference

No arguing over the name and it's differentiated (although strangely).

September was the ACC's deadline to submit a proposal. Since then, a lot has changed...

Sounds like the ACC wants a revolving tournament. Probably why MSG and the Barclays passed.

Im sure that's part of it.

But prior to September, Barclays was prob very happy with the A10 deal and MSG was reasonably happy with the Big East. Now, the membership of both conferences is completely different.

I'm betting the ACC will look different by the time they would ever play in the Garden. Worst case, ACC takes the garden and the B7 takes the Barclays. Not a terrible trade off.

Read down to the comments section where there is a post by someone with the handle Dorky.  I'm not sure his understanding is correct.  the C-7 left when they did because they held majority voting status with the depature of Louisville and Rutgers.  So while they may not have had the power to dissolve the conference its my understanding that they have more power than just to leave.  I think that until June 2013 they have the power to change the way funds are distributed and all kinds of other stuff.  They are not simply "departing".  They can change the landscape signficantly prior to leaving.  That is the gun that they have to the BE's head.  That is why the BE must negoitate with them and why this isn't just a big payday for UConn, Cinc and SF as he seems to think.

I LOVE watching the BEast tourney at the Garden, there's obviously something special about that place, but there are a lot of great cities/stadiums to host a tournament. A few of the top of my head: Boston (TD Bank Garden), Chicago (United Center), Philadelphia (Wells Fargo), or NYC-Brooklyn (Barclays). No offense to those who dwell in smaller cities, but I just don't want to sign a long contract with a stadium in Indianapolis, Omaha, or Cleveland, or any of those cities that lack a strong urban identity [EDIT: Flair wasn't the right word].

As a disclaimer, I have no idea what sort of contracts the aforementioned arenas have with other conferences or teams or event organizers over the time period when the C7 would have their conference tourney. Just saying that there are likely some really good alternatives out there.

No question. MSG. Maybe not so cut and dry for fan bases of Providence, Seton Hall, Providence, Georgetown, and Villanova.

When ND announced it was leaving the BE, an MSG spokesperson said that there were provisions in the contract that would allow them to get out of it if they didnt like the composition of the conference. I dont think Barclays has been asked yet since they havent faced drastic defections at this point.
