Marquette's easier schedule through seven conference games

The Golden Eagles are tied at 6-1 atop the Big East, so how do you judge their competition so far?

Mike is a busy little beaver today.

No doubt this has been the easiest part of our schedule as 5 of 7 games have been home games. When looking at opponents records, though, you have to subtract your own games from the equation to get a more accurate accounting. That would make our opposition 20-25 in league play. Not good (.444) but better than .405 or whatever Hunt is using.

MU's combined opponent record is 21-31 (.403). Next is Pitt (.431), Syracause (.433) and St. John's (.435). Only Marquette, Louisville and Seton Hall have played the bottom four teams.
What teams are the bottom 4?
We haven't played DePaul, (bottom team record wise) or St.Johns

Yes, our early conference schedule has been comparatively easy.   But MU has won the games we needed to win and stole one from Pitt.   That is all you can ask for.

Pomeroy has us 13 with only St. John's and ND easier. But... Syracuse is 11 and Louisville is 9 so far.

That's why I'm not on the "Win the Big East" Band Wagon.  I'm still thinking Just make the Tourney.  Beyond the clearly tough games, away games at Rutgers, SH, Nova, SF and St Johns are all going to be struggles.  We will lose games we thought we would win.  That said I believe that it was advantageous for us to start out with the home loaded scheduled.  This team had a lot of new roles that had to come together. That wasn't the case last year and I don't think will be the case next year.  Playing at home gave us the time to jell.  Now they can head off into the hard part with confidence and with a working margin.

RPI has us 11 of 15 in terms of easiest.  Looks like Paint Touches used combined records, while RPI and Pomeroy are going a bit deeper than that.

Let me guess, Pomeroy has UW-Madison at #1.  ::)

LOL.

Wisconsin, is 4th in the Big Ten, though the top 5 teams in the country are all Big Ten when it comes to in conference SOS.

MU is 12th of 15 in the Big East now (I said 11th, but that was end of last week).

I am just glad were 6-1 conference. I guess that is why you play the games, to confound pundits like Mr. Hunt.

UCONN, Pitt, G-Town and Cincy are not soft teams on the schedule.  They may turn out to be middle of the pack, but we got important wins over two of them that will prove exceedingly helpful with BE tourney seeding.   While UCONN isn't going anywhere, they will hand out some conference defeats that will help MU.

This team needed to experience success in order for it to grow.  A hard, mature team can handle 0-3 if those losses are to top teams.  A young team finding its identity would have a harder time.

We may not beat L'ville or Syracuse, but MU is far better prepared to play them now then they were in early January.

Be thankful that our team gets to play in meaningful games like those coming up.

When we stop talking, really bad stuff happens.
