Basically you face your opponent and follow his every move.  You don't worry yourself about the ball, where the ball is, who has it.  You simply are in the face of your opponent and track him everywhere.

One defender, usually Mayo, followed Kilpatrick everywhere.   No help defense, no rebounding, just fronting Kilpatrick and denying him the ball.   Kilpatrick made it easy by frequently standing 30 feet from the basket and not attempting to get open.   Mayo and Kilpatrick would be standing by themselves while the rest of the players played 4 on 4.

I assume then that MU was manned-up with the remaining four?  Because if they were playing zone, that would be a box-and-one, no?

EDIT: Better yet, perhaps I should simply ask the difference between what's being termed "face-guarding" and "box-and-one."
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Yes,  MU was playing man defense on the other 4.

Are we rooting for or against Cincy today? I simply dont like Cronin so Im going to root against them.

You root for CIN because it creates more parity in the standings. A Cuse loss leaves us tied for number one and increases the chances of us being in play for a double bye in the BET.

Agreed--way too early to be conceding any spots at the top of the conference.

The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I have to wonder if this wasn't as much Cronin's strategy as it was Buzz's.

It wasn't as if Kilpatrick couldn't score in the 2nd half--he actually scored more and got to the line more often in the 2nd half compared to the first.

I noticed the same thing, 84.   Cronin seemed to make the conscious decision to allow Kilpatrick to stand off to the side and play 4 on 4.   It is a testament to how good Kilpatrick was on Saturday that after literally standing around for 5 minutes of game time was still able to make plays when it mattered.
