Chance of C7 conference starting next year?

So what is the realistic chance of this conference starting play next season?

Boise and San Diego have already screwed up the football plans by gong back to the MWC. Basically every other school still in the Big East right now doesn't want to be there and it's going to be hard to get any network commit to any type of deal with the constant changing of teams since you may either get some form of the current Big East for the next 2 years of CUSA V2.0.

Personally I would love to see it next year but feel something has to get done before the tourney since FOX is looking for properties now for their new channel. (On a side note could they kick in extra money for the buyouts to make it happen sooner or is that illegal?)

I think it's 50/50. Not having a contract for basketball television rights could very well speed things up. But it's also possible if UConn, Cincy, and the other Big Country teams are interested in renegotiating with the same TV provider we go with that they could come to an accord for the 2013-14 season.

I definitely think we will start by 2014-15.

Big East has no television contract for next year. C7+ has half a billion dollars on the table in TV money. There needs to be a split for Big East to get TV money. No one will give them cash without a concrete picture.

Let me change...I'm going more along brew's line.

Logistically, it will be a challenge.  Competitions in this conference would have to begin in about 7 months.  We have no conference...no commissioner...no new members...no idea what sports would be sponsored...

Not exactly true. The Big East has a football contract but not a basketball contract. That's why it isn't as pressing for the football schools to expedite this. Their primary source of income will still be coming in. They'd lose some money in basketball, but I'm sure they could live with that a lot easier than we could.

MU's soccer team was ranked as high as #2 in the nation.  Unless we want to ruin a season for them (and others), these decisions have to be made in the next several weeks or it is 2014/2015 start. ND AD Sawbrick was complaining about this a few weeks ago and it fell on deaf ears and ridicule.  But he is correct.

Not saying it cannot be done, but times a wasting, they have to hustle NOW to get going next year.

So, I say at best 50/50 we start next year.

Finally, I think Uconn and Cincy (and maybe USF) are all for one more season of BE play as we know it now.  That gives them one more year for the ACC to be raided so they can jump to that league.

If the C7 stuck around until July 1, 2015, there would be no buyouts.  No one expects that to happen.  Anything is negotiable, paying a buyout and the amount of the buyout seem to be very likely candidates for negotiation.

Good find.  Encouraging that they are trying to do this ASAP.

Yes they are non-revenue sports, but many C7 schools and ND (are they playing the the BE or not next year?) are very important to the national championship in numerous of non-revenue sports.  So, it matters.

Obviously the devil is in the details, but it's not like everything is literally from scratch.  There are template contracts, by-laws and scheduling for the various sports that can be modified pretty quickly to accommodate the timeline.  I would also find it very surprising that we don't know at least 10 or 11 of the teams already so a schedule could be pretty put together, especially since the C7 only match ups wouldn't have to change, just be scheduled around with the new schools.

Ton of work no doubt, but it's not like we're starting from zero.  And if LW is out there running some noise about a July 1 2013 date, you are damn sure there is a lot of work already done.
