Very good article.   It will drive our western neighbors nuts.

"In my hometown, people have already started looking at Marquette differently now that I've committed there," Johnson said. "All the good players from Memphis always go to Memphis. What they are doing now isn't turning out too good. I'm hoping that me going out to Marquette will get others to come to Marquette."

This is the kind of stuff that should make every Marquette fan/alum proud.

These guys can't get here soon enough.  They're all skilled and athletic as hell, clearly love Buzz, and all want to recruit.  They are going to do some big things, and I'm glad we have them to take us into the new league.

MUMountin

What I really like is the sense of camaraderie between this class--I feel like we haven't seen that since the Three Amigos came in.  There is something special when a group of recruits come in with a collective sense of purpose--and I love that the Milwaukee trio was actively involved in pulling Johnson in.  Could be a very special class.

ATWizJr

Very impressive.  Can't wait to see these kids on the court.

Stretchdeltsig

Great article.  Great reading about the recruits and their strong ties with Buzz and each other.  Excited to watch them contribute next year.

It's interesting that it was the three amigos that took us to a new league and now we have the Milwaukee three plus one taking us to a new league.

Don't leave out Dawson!  I think he'll be an excellent player for us, if not right away definitely as an upperclassman.

swoopem

Do they not have phone lines in New Mexico? I understand that Dawson is not as highly regarded as the other 4 but I'd still like to hear from him about MU, the conference, Buzz, etc. Everyone seems to forget about him which is understandable, but he is still coming to Marquette and I think he should get a little more press than he actually does.

Honest question for those with greater knowledge of NCAA compliance rules than mine:  what are the rules regarding contact with recruits by current and/or former players?  Are they subject to the same restrictions as other boosters?  Or does their connection with the program allow them greater contact with recruits?

Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

I think if the recruit establishes contact first, then it's a-okay.  For instance, if Buzz says something to a JUCO recruit like, "Talk to Jimmy Butler, Jae Crowder or DJO about how they liked their transition from JUCO to MU.  If you want their number, text or call any time, I know they love MU and would be more than happy to talk to you."  I think then the ball is in the recruit's court and it up to him to reach out if he wants to talk to them.  I don't think Buzz could just give those guys a recruit's number and have them start barraging him out of the blue with phonce calls and texts though.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here, but that's how I understand it.

I would hope that prospective students strongly look at graduation rates and post collegiate track records. I know that Memphis has an atrocious record of preparing student athletes for life after basketball. Mssrs. Finch, Kirk, and Calipari displayed little concern for the student half of that equation. I want Marquette to differentiate on this basis.

LloydMooresLegs

And Marquette does, indeed, differentiate on that basis.  Much to be proud of.
