Butler is 8 - 2.  Lost to X badly in their first game of the season.  Lost to Illinois which is #10 this week.

Beat MU, and handed UNC its first lost of the year.  Handed #1 IU its first lost of the year as well.

Yet they are "only" #19 this week, unranked last week.

Seems to me they should be higher ranked.

Agree or Disagree?

agree... id think theyd be in the 15 range

Usually it all depends on who loses in front of them if they were unranked...

MauraDay

Agree. IMHO, if they were from a major conference, there's no question that they would be ranked higher.

+1.  It is difficult to leapfrog teams (yet they managed to leapfrog more than 10 unless they lose.

Butler is ranked appropriately.

ChicosBailBonds

Disagree...they have two losses of 15 points +...one to a ranked team and one to an unranked team.  Not one team ahead of them has two losses.  Who, should they be ranked ahead of?

They are the highest ranked 2 loss team in the country and they are still ranked ahead of a number of one loss teams.

Lennys Tap

Agree with Chicos that Butler is fairly ranked.

Last year, Indiana entered the season unranked and after a win against Kentucky and a 9-0 record they moved up only to #18 and #20.

Butler was likewise unranked entering the season and have beaten #1 (on a neutral court). Their very good wins against MU and UNC are mitigated by their 2 losses. That said, I watched Butler go toe to toe with IU for 45 minutes and think they're probably better than their ranking - their loss to X was a tough first game road tilt and they were gassed in Maui while Illinois was fresh after 2 easy wins - but #19 is about where they belong.

I think what is more perplexing is that an 8-2 UNC team is ranked 6 (SIX!!!) spots higher than Butler in the USA Today poll.

UNC's best win is against a 3-6 Miss St team (that MU beat by 27 pts), and just gave up 61 2nd half points to East Carolina (SIXTY ONE!!!).  Talk about a team getting too much love.

+1  They are getting ranked based on their name and not what they have done so far on the court as it has not been that good.

Agree. UNC should not be in the top 25.

Look who votes in the coaches poll? It's a joke and has been since it was started decades ago.  SIDs, managers of the team, the dog, etc....these coaches aren't out there watching games and most of them don't vote but have a proxy do it for them.

This is true.

Coaches are notorious for others to do it for them.

"The Coaches' Poll" is a clear misnomer.
