Tulane's loudest Big East critic has a daughter working for the Green Wave

There should be some fun dinner-table conversation this year when the Williams family gathers for the holidays. That's because Marquette Athletic Director Larry Williams angrily denounced the Big East's inclusion of Tulane, which just happened to recently hire his daughter.

From left, Tulane football coach Curtis Johnson, men's basketball coach Ed Conroy, President Scott Cowen and baseball coach Rick Jones chat after the announcement that Tulane will join the Big East Conference in all sports, beginning in the 2014-15 season.

Larry Williams brought heat on Tulane earlier this week in comments to ESPN Radio 100.5-FM in Milwaukee on Tuesday, saying about their addition to the conference, "I was not pleased that we issued an invitation to Tulane without any diligence to what effect that would have on our basketball product, the draw on our RPI and other such things."

"I was disappointed that I wasn't able to participate as a member of the conference in the deliberation that went into adding that," Williams said. "There might be well-articulated and very deep reasons why you would do it otherwise. But dog-gone-it, I'm not concerned about that. I'm concerned about making sure that Marquette is in a position that it can take advantage of the great investment it's made in being successful in basketball."
