Watching the NCAA tourney last March several of my friends commented on how cut and bulked Marquette players were. These guys are objective observers who know college hoops and amazed at the strength of the Marquette players. I was just looking at a pic of VB at the line and behind him stands a fit, solid Cadougan who arrived at Marquette a fat boy. We pay a lot of tribute to Buzz' Boot Camp but little is said about the weight training.

Yes, Todd Smith has done a great and underrated job with MU's strength and conditioning program.

It has been commented many times with new recruits about how they need time with Todd Smith.    It seems that every player who comes to MU leaves looking like a physical specimen.

I can't help but think that this is an advantage and factor in getting guys to the League. Our guys graduate looking more like Kellen Winslow than Bo Ellis. I hope Smith is happy and thriving at MU.

Was I misinformed about the NFL inquiring about Jae and DJO?
Thought i heard that. Would speak a lot about their physical prescence besides athleticism

jsglow

My observation these first two games is that Juan has added a good layer of muscles since last spring.

Watched the MU - BYU game at a Sports Bar seated next to John Clayton. Clayton said the Eagles were interested in Jae as a TE and had called his agent. Looks like his NBA gig is getting traction so it's academic even if an intriguing what if.

Clayton, BTW, had MU getting to the Elite 8 in his personal bracket.

Playing devils advocate here....dont ALL schools have an S&C program for basketball players? Dont perennial top 20 programs have great facilities? In fact, most schools dont have separate training facilities for bball players and fball players. Im sure the SEC schools have ample resources...

Some here seem to want to compare the program to Xavier or SLU. We are light years ahead of them. The problem the program faces is being competitive in the collegiate athletics arms race as a bball-only school. Jets are standard. A lot of fball coaches receive their very own (aside from the ones that teams travel on). Some schools (even Rutgers) owns their own helicopter.

I fear that the new deals that are being inked for football (the access bowls and playoffs) are going to provide so much money to athletic departments that football programs will no longer lose money. Will the surplus get thrown into bball? Things could look very different in 15 years or so...
