Most interesting part - Aki Collins tried to lure Mayo to Memphis with him. Douchenozzle.
Oh, and apparently Buzz wasn't forced to suspend Mayo by LW. Stunning.

Interesting.  Never heard of a player getting suspended because he didn't have a relationship with the head coach or falling behind in "things", not academic/personal troubles.

Good for Todd to come forward and looking for really big things for him this year.

GoldenZebra

Really puts into perspective how ridiculous and stupid those talks were about all the "suspensions" happening last season, haha!

RubyWiscy

From another angle, maybe Buzz was trying to take pressure off of Todd in getting his head straight.  Conditions for coming back were to build a relationship with the Head Coach.  If not what he wanted, feel free to head elsewhere.

But, the ND way is for every player to have a relationship with the head coach.

Very glad to hear that it wasn't academics related.  I was concerned that Todd might not want to stick around after his sophomore year if that was a problem.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

madtownwarrior

come on, don't give up, I am sure we can find a way to point out how this was LW putting the screws to Buzz (or better yet, messing with Buzz's happy).

there's got to be a "source"somewhere...

JD

I personally feel like i've noticed Todd is much different this year via social media, walking down the street to class, etc. (Call it the eye test or whatever have you)

He seems much more confident, and overall much happier.  I really expect Todd to break out this year, along with Van.  I don't see a Sweet 16 apperance as far fetched as most,I would be dissapointed if this team did not advance that far.

Yep.

Wonder what all the people whose "sources" were telling them things that were absolutely incorrect think now.  Lots of credibility lost (if they ever really had credibility to begin with).

Regardless if you believe the stated reasons for his suspension, the underlying facts regarding his issues remain.

I have to say, this was one of the weirdest articles I've ever seen written about MU BBall. Suspended for not having a relationship with the head coach? Not buying it. I'm guessing he accepted something from a Memphis booster after Aki left. Really, it left me feeling pretty glad Aki is no longer with us; it seems like he may not have been an A+ individual, regardless of his ability to recruit.

Is OJ still in Memphis? That had to be tempting to join his brother.

OJ is with the Mavs now.

Let's not throw Aki completely under the bus, we don't know the circumstances. If he was the guy Todd went to for advice, it's entirely possible Todd contacted him saying he wasn't sure that Marquette was the place for him and Aki responded saying "I can try to pull some strings to get you to Memphis if you would like". The guy did a great job for us for years and seemed to have earned Buzz's trust.

Memphis, as a signed on member of the BE, cannot take transfers from within the BE as I understand it, even in transition.   Collins role was to be the good cop on the staff.  Benford's was to be the father.  Of course the players have great relationships with these quality guys.

Cmon...that didn't happen.  And you have no idea of the context in which he spoke with Mayo.

And yet he left for Memphis which appears to be a lateral move.  And he did it when the top assistant's job was open here.  There's a lot that we don't know about Aki's move.

The fact that Aki was trying to burn Buzz over Mayo is telling.  Seems like that bridge was already burned if Aki was willing to burn it over Mayo.

Maybe that's right. None of us will ever know, I suppose. But the scenario you lay out is very, very different than what Todd says ... and I'd guess he has a better idea of what occurred than  you or I. By Todd's account ("he wanted me to go to Memphis") it sure sounds like an attempted poaching.

What's this even mean?

I think the point is this story ought to drive another nail in the coffin of the Hiroshima theory that said players were being run off by the administration, new academic standards were being imposed retroactively, JUCOs were no longer welcome, LW was forcing Buzz to suspend players, etc., etc.

And it should also - if it wasn't already obvious - serve as another reminder that Internet forum posters who anonymously claim to have inside information are, more often than not, full of it.

I think brewcity's point is that there are two sides to every story, and treating a quote from a 20-something kid at complete truth without understanding the whole story is perilous.  It may be completely true.  It may be something that Todd wanted to hear because his good friend left the program.

Instead of making rash judgements (which is all so Scoop-like I know), maybe we should either wait to see what the story is, or not leap to conclusions so easily.

What is means is regardless for the stated reasons for his suspension, Todd Mayo had academic issues that almost required him to leave the program.  And he still isn't out of the woods.

You can choose to believe me...or not...

So when I write "Maybe that's right. None of us will ever know ..." you take that as making rash judgment and leaping to conclusions?
