We are scheduled for an official visit at Madness.  I trust that more than the list.

I think Burton is going to be a stud, but for those who have seen him live how good is his shot? I've seen his highlight tapes and read his scouting reports which all make it seem like he is more of a slasher who likes getting to the rim. Can he pull up and nail the 15 footer and free throw line extended?

It's not consistent at this point in time (more of a hot streak shooter) and he does have a tendency to settle for long jumpers at times. However, he has great form and is not a Vander part deux. He is a bulldozer when attacking the rim as well, which will serve him nicely in creating space when he starts hitting jumpers more regularly.

I just wanted to jump in and respond to the ONE thread that actually deserved responses today.  Unfortunately, I don't have anything to add to the thread, but it was a nice to see among all the muck!  Hoops talk, a novel idea.

(OK, there were a couple others, Tokoto, LSU, but those were started a few days ago)

well I can change that in a hurry...LW, SLU, hiroshima, Monarch, the Journal, Tom Endlund, something about buzz...am I forgetting anything to turn this back into boring non bball talk?

53 rated higher by some subjective service.

We won't know who belongs where in the 2013 ratings until 2014 or 2015, when, you know, crazy concept, these kids actually play some games for their universities.

No, the California basketball team has not yet received a commitment for the 2013 recruiting cycle, but the Bears are on the lips of some of the nation's top players.

With Cal already preparing to host three local five-stars this coming weekend, the Bears hosted four-star shooting guard Jordan Mathews last weekend, as the No. 85-ranked player in the nation took his third unofficial trip to Berkeley.

"I liked it a lot," said the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder.

Mathews will leave for Kansas State on Thursday for a visit, then trip out to Wake Forest in two weeks and to Marquette on Oct. 12, and will make his final decision after that, though he doesn't know yet whether he wants to sign in the fall or in the spring.

I like his shot.  I've seen him live when he's got things rolling and is hitting long turn around jumpers and treys... when his perimeter shots are falling, he is one of those guys that gets into a mode where you shake your head and just go, "nothing you can do... just can't stop him.. not inside, not outside, not mid range.. nothing".. he can also run you over like a bull and then use a soft touch at the end of the drive, after contact.  He's very impressive.

Completely agree on this point. He has a great feel around the rim and knows how to use the backboard. Without comparing Burton himself to LeBron James, his drives are of the same mold. He absorbs the contact without getting thrown off balance. Players at the high school level just ping off him.

Yeah thats what I mean if MU is the only school not close to home then that means there is something that stands out to him other than location.

Simeon's Jabari Parker adds UConn to his list

Jabari Parker's inner circle is working on getting him to narrow the list of colleges he's considering.

Instead, the Simeon senior is adding to it, as first reported by ESPN Chicago.

New Connecticut coach Kevin Ollie managed to squeeze his way into Parker's busy schedule of home visits, Simeon coach Robert Smith said Thursday.

Ollie, who was promoted when Jim Calhoun announced his retirement last week, will make his pitch in the Parker's living room next week.

The Huskies were not among Parker's list of 10 finalists.

Most of the 10 — Brigham Young, DePaul, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina and Stanford — either have taken their home visit or have one scheduled in the next several days.

Simeon assistant coach Jeff Duncan said Parker said he could begin trimming his list after the weekend.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo was set to meet the Parkers on Thursday night, followed by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski on Friday night.

Smith said he does not think Parker will wait until the spring to decide, a possibility Sonny Parker, Jabari's father, suggested this summer.

Parker may be closer than he's letting on.

"He may have already cut it down in his head," Smith said. "But if he did, nobody knows because he doesn't say anything to anybody."

Smith said Parker's recovery from a foot injury he suffered while playing with Team USA is going well.

He expects Parker to be ready by mid-October.

If I'm Parker, I'd go to Stanford: great education, great connections, playing for a more competitive Pac 12.

But I'd need to convince one or two of my good baller friends to commit with me.

I could not be less competitive, At one point in February, they had no ranked teams.  They were worse than the Horizon league.

Maybe he should go to Butler?

My prediction ... He's only playing one year and then going to be the first pick in the draft.  Since he's not going to stay in college for anything close to four years, going to Stanford is a waste of his time.  So go to the place where you can win Freshman year ... Kentucky

Parker has been an MSU lean for a long time, Duke and Kansas in 2nd and 3rd. Kentucky is fading from the picture. Wiggins will reclassify to the 2013 class, be named the best player in the class, and replace him at Kentucky and go #1 in the draft. He is announcing whether or not he will reclassify sometime this week I think, and it isnt a given he will yet, but I think he will.
