Just bought the magazine, and was semi surprised they didn't have Marquette even in their top 40.  They had them sixth in the Big East, with only two Big East teams in the top 25 (though still rated the conference 2nd).  I have no qualms with being selected sixth in the conference, but I would put quite a wager down that they would be top 40 (which basically means we just need to make the tournament with a 10 seed or better).  I guess the fact that they didn't even list Juan, D Wilson, or Jake Thomas as roster players ought to tell you that it isn't a very serious conference and team breakdown, but I did agree with some of their selections.  Where do you think MU stands in the conference prospects at this point?  I would say around the 4th or 5th spot in a very similar position to Georgetown and Pittsburgh, the teams Lindy's has at the 4th and 5th spots.  Then again, I feel Cincy is also in the mix for that fourth spot along with the three aforementioned schools.  L-ville is rated 1st in the country, which is funny.  They will be good no doubt, but even Indiana might be more worthy to be in that spot (although I would say, when you think about it, it's hard to come up with many great teams, and it may well be that teams like Lville and Indiana are contenders for preseason #1 by default.

An out of top 40 ranking for MU casts doubt on Lindy's as an expert.

Only the season will determine that. Rankings are somewhat suspect anyways. MU has a good chance of losing to Ohio St and Florida and thus not being ranked at end of November. Replace them with two bunny teams that MU would beat and they would be ranked in top 20 at end of November. Same team different records and different rankings.

Problem with these magazines is they're done in May/June when there's a lot of clamor during the summer. By the time they're in print and on the shelves, so much has happened.

It's a useless magazine unless you want to make a collage for your wall.

It's not quite that useless, though Blue Ribbon is so much better given its later publishing date and greater detail.  Still, I'd venture to guess it's done in July or early August, and rosters won't look a ton different except for a few injury/suspension updates from some teams.

Dick Vitale also omitted us from his "top 40" a month or two ago. Course he's not much of an expert either. I'm not worried.

That Trent Lockett, he's chopped liver, right?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

From an outsider's POV, we are losing our two leading scorers who were an unusually large percentage of what we did on offense and defense.  This is our biggest loss of talent since the 3 Amigos graduated.  It is not unreasonable to pick us outside the top 40.  When you think about, the biggest reason most of us think we'll be better than the expert preseason predictions is that since Buzz got here, we are always better than the expert preseason predictions.
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Agreed. We saw what Buzz did when he lost 4 starters and his program was in its infancy. No reason to doubt him when we lose 2 starters (though our top starters, to be sure) in what is now an established program. With an injured starter returning and an established senior transfer in the mix with our solid returnees I see us as much better than the bubble team some experts project.
