No credible sources here what so ever but had heard some stuff last week from a freiend about a possible move to the Big 12 for Marquette.  Any thing behind this?

Must be Larry Williams' ND connections bringing MU along to the Big 12 on ND's coattails.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Hard to imagine a a conference as football-centric as the B12 taking any basketball-only school. Perhaps MU is starting a football program...

If Larry could pull this off and go With ND, If in fact they went for all sports other then Football It would be Bigger then us moving to the Big East.

Where would you rate a BBALL conf:
Texas
Texas Tech
OKL
OKL ST
Baylor
Kansas
Kanas st
Iowa ST
TCU
WV
ND
MARQ

You basically have 10 teams with NCAA quality programs out of 12.  Is there a better BBALL Conf top to bottom?  Doubtful.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

while I really doubt this would happen, it got kicked around a bit when realignment was really humming. i think it miiiight make sense for everyone in a limited scenario. if the 4x16 superconferences came to pass, one of those superconferences might take on 3 basketball only schools in addition to Notre Dame to get to 20 for basketball. the thought would be that the basketball schools bypass football $$, but are in on everything else, which for all intents and purposes is only basketball revenue. the big earner there would be a massive 20 team conference tourney. (scheduling mess, etc, aside)

the incentive for whatever conference did this would be a close relationship with ND should they ever want to join a conference in football. though unlikely, maintaining that relationship would likely be worth the additional headache of the 3 teams in basketball and nonrevenue sports, especially if their joinder didn't mean a further split of football $$.

the obvious candidates for the three spots would be:
MU
Georgetown
Villanova
St Johns
Depaul

Unfortunately, MU brings little to the table of those options market-wise, so would need to a) keep winning/stay in the nat'l spotlight and maybe more importantly b) have a very very close relationship with ND.

So, you're saying that a conference with 16 football playing schools would be interested in adding ND as a 17th football team?  That would redefine a super conference.

Not sure why the Big XII would be interested in this. Why bring in hoops-only schools? They've seen what a mess the Big East has become. In a few years, MU's best bet will be either a basketball-only Big East or a revamped A-10. That's the hard cold reality. MU doesn't have football. And when you don't have football, you don't have a lot of options.

Yeah, but I think if ND is the prize, they shoot first and ask questions later. At the point where they're at 16, I don't think the scheduling stupidity of an extra team would stop anyone from grabbing the biggest cash cow in college sports

I really don't think the problem with the BE is having non-football schools.  The problem is having poor football schools looking to get into better conferences for football and a near even split of football/non-football.

In a B12 with 3 non-football schools, the football schools would clearly call the shots and football schools wouldn't be constantly looking to a new conference with better football and better football $.  The basketball schools would not be a problem in this alliance.

This was discussed a while back, with a very credible source, saying it was a possible landing spot for MU if things fall apart.  My guess is that ND would want to bring in DePaul and MU as travel partners.

Perhaps this defines the rift between LW  and BW? Or, maybe we're finally gonna resurrect football, thanks to the MUScooper's letter writin' campaign.

It would provide stability for MU as long as Notre Dame remained independent in football. Once Notre Dame decided to join in football, there would be no reason to keep MU around.
