I guess for the most part it's a pretty good job, nothing crazy.  My main two issues are with Wisconsin and Baylor being too high.  I'd think Marquette should be higher than ND too, but I'm obviously biased.

Ahhh... ESPN polls/articles in the offseason: the fluff that dreams are made of!
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Less money to spend?????  Aren't we like second only to duke in our basketball budget????

brewcity77

Hmm...I'd say that's a poor article. Marquette has less money to spend? Than who? Duke? Because our basketball budget is highest in the Big East and 2nd in the nation to only the Blue Devils. I'd knock Syracuse and Pitt down a bit because of their poor geographic fit in the ACC (and how can you not as they attempt the transition that killed BC?), and definitely drop UConn due to the woeful circumstances surrounding the program.

I guess I can see UL, Nova, and GT, ND maybe but it's at least close to a wash. No other jobs in this conference I'd think belong ahead of us.

JakeBarnes

The Marquette blurb sounds like we are a pro team trying to make it under a salary cap. How we are "allowed" to have JUCOs makes me laugh.

Nobody said that they had to have their facts straight.

ESPN probably has a clause in the TV contract which allows them to have pre-notification of BOT changes to the basketball budget.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Maybe other schools (like ND?) aren't allowed to recruit them.  If that's true for ND, that would be one very good reason to rank the MU job ahead of NDs.

They seem to lump all the Catholic Schools together as having "budget constraints" Well, for starters, private schools don't have to worry about taxpayer money paying for coaches. Outside of maybe DePaul, the other Catholic schools are well funded. As we all know, Marquette has one of the highest BBall budgets in the country. To bad nobody at ESPN bothers to spend any time actually checking their assumptions.

I'd rank MU ahead of Villanova, too, based on our bball budget and our superior facilities and attendance.

Maybe Goose's SLU-ification of MU Hoops has started?

Seriously, you have made your point.  You really need to stop.

I just want to see if I can get the word SLU-ification to be adopted by the board   :D

IMO consider it adopted.

Exactly what I was thinking about this.  I was reading this on my phone earlier and was wondering what drugs the ESPN.com folk were on with their commentary about MU's having "less money to spend."  At least they seem to be giving the program a lot of coverage of late, so I'm not going to get too up in arms about this.
Relax. Respect the Process.

Oooooh, and now a "You Rank E'm"...because fans are really good at this type of thing.

Its choices include Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Memphis, UNLV, Xavier, Baylor (seriously, wtf?), Missouri and Maryland.....but not MU? >:(

there's a big drop off in attendance after marquette.  georgetown, pittsburgh and villanova belong behind mu just due to this rather large discrepancy.  espn used to be pretty good, but shady journalism isn't just limited to the "main steam" anymore.  their product is really watered down and when they try to manufacture stories, they are not well researched.  they think they are front and center...slipping

ESPN now did it nationally:

No way Ohio St. should be ahead of MSU in either of these rankings.  Izzo and the hoops team are worshiped there, in Columbus they're kind of an afterthought compared to football.  MSU had a championship with one of the greatest of all time (Magic), a championship with Izzo, and several other final fours on top of that.
