Just curious, because I wasn't around these boards during the time, was MU ever even mentioned with Austin Rivers when he was being recruited out of high school?  I know he was a top prospect and we probably never even stood a chance, but I was just wondering if MU's name was ever being thrown around with him, considering Doc played here.

And how about Jeremiah?  Was he ever considering MU? 

Are there any interesting quotes from Doc about why his sons decided not to go MU?

I remember at the time Austin didn't look at Marquette because he didn't want to be in the shadow of his father and end up with the inevitable comparisons. Can't remember off hand if Jeremiah ever gave us a serious look

Crean recruited Jeremiah pretty heavily, but there definitely was a "don't want to play in my dad's shadow" thing working against MU there. Jeremiah admitted as much when he later decided to play for Crean at IU.

I don't think MU ever was even in the running for Austin. He committed to Florida pretty early (like as a high school freshman) and when he later backed out he was looking pretty much at Duke and UNC exclusively.

It's no crime to not want to go to MU. I'm glad I spend four years there, but if I had every school in the nation chasing me, I gotta tell you, I don't think I would have ended up in Milwaukee.

I believe there was some interest after Vander played with him on Team USA, but it never really went anywhere. Kind of the same with Quincy Miller, but I think we had much more of a real chance with Miller than Rivers.

Doc and his future wife received some ignorant BS when Doc was at MU because they were a interracial couple.  (and maybe a little because she had been seeing Marc Marotta just before she and Doc got together).  I remember reading that Doc was on record as saying that he wouldn't encourage his kids to go to MU because of that.  Don't know if any of that was true.  It would seem to be questionable based on Doc's position on the BOT.

Seeing what he did (or didn't do) at Gtown and IU, makes me happy a bit he wasn't here.

My roomate was Doc's tutor and his current wife was not his girlfriend back then. He never told us there was racial bias, he did go out with a red head girl friend of ours.
