to welcome team back at 1:30am. Real classy move by the students.

I visited friends at Lawrence the weekend of the Mizzou-Kansas game in Lawrence. Needless to say, the comeback was of epic proportion and the outpouring of support was unlike anything I have seen at any school.

It is a special place for sure. Saw MU play there when KO was coach and even though we were blown out of the gym it was great experience.

You're not kidding with the term "blown out of the gym".  How many turnovers did we finish with in that game?  36?

Goose

Possibly more turnovers than pints, but more beers than turnovers.

why don't our students do this?!?! they suck and are lazy!!!!!

Kansas is unique, truly one of the best environments. Lawrence is a small town is which the university -- and especially the basketball team -- is all that matters.

Early in Self's tenure there, I went to a game during Xmas break against Binghamton. The place was packed and the environment was just as fun as if the team was playing a good conference opponent. I came away very impressed.

Ever since the Topeka Scarecrows of the USHL moved out of the state in 2001, it's been pretty much open for KU to dominate the sports landscape there.
(I never realized how completely devoid of sports it was there until I searched for it....)

Not in Kansas, but Chiefs and Royals are about an hour away from Lawrence

True, but baseball season ends when CBB begins and starts when CBB ends, so no overlap.  And how many Jayhawk games actually coincide with the Chiefs each year?  One?  Two?  As other have mentioned not much competition for the sports $$.

In that case, watch out for Wyoming, Boise State, Oregon St, etc. should lead the nation in attendance figures every year.  No competition at all for sports dollars in that area.

Is it that hard to admit that another school has a passionate fan base without qualifying it?

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I really don't have a dog in the "passionate fan base" fight.  Was just explaining that the Royals and Chiefs are not big competition during Jayhawk CBB season.

Yeah, I guess I should have responded to 77ncaachamps.
