Do the final rankings always reflect the results of the tourney? For example, will MU finish ahead of Duke/Missou regardless of winning/losing to Florida?

MUMac

Yes to the first question and not necessarily to the 2nd.

Isn't it only the AP poll that releases another set of rankings after the tournament (and not the coaches poll)? As I recall, we finished sixth in the AP in 2003, despite making the final four. The game against Kansas might have had something to do with that...

Usually the two teams in the national title game finish 1-2 in the polls.  Other than that it is a crap-shoot.

wojosdojo

Yes and it is one of the most pointless polls they do. Last year VCU finished ahead of Duke (what?!?!) and I think Butler finished second. A tourney run should NOT be the sole reason for your teams rank. Marquette's was only ranked once last year and that was in this poll.

"I went into a restaurant one night and ordered lobster, and the waiter brought me one with a claw missing. He told me that in the back there's a tank they keep the lobsters in and while they're in there, they fight and sometimes one loses a claw. I told him to bring me a winner."  Al McGuire

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.
