Seton Hall to play in Newark
Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Seton Hall University will play its men's basketball games at the new arena in Newark, ending a 26-year run at the Meadowlands.

The Prudential Center, an 18,500-seat venue for basketball, is scheduled to open in October. The facility will also be the new home for the NHL's New Jersey Devils, the primary tenant.

"We are thrilled to welcome Seton Hall University and their fans to Prudential Center," said Devils Arena Entertainment president and chairman Jeffrey Vanderbeek in a statement. "This is world-class facility is going to be an exciting place to watch Big East basketball and we are glad to be the new home of the Pirates."

Seton Hall began playing at the Meadowlands in 1981-82 with a handful of games, then started playing its entire Big East home schedule at the building in the late 1980s and the majority of its home slate in East Rutherford in the mid-1990s.

The move to Newark will also make home games closer to the South Orange campus, just a few miles away.

Appears to be an upgrade from the meadowlands, I actually felt sorry for them playing in a very empty oversized arena.  I realize the seating is about the same but the layout of Continential made it seem even larger than it was, a lot of room from court to seats.

MU Fan in Connecticut

My friend is a Seton Hall grad and he said the best benefit of the new Newark arena is that it is way closer to the Seton Hall campus than the Meadowlands.

new areana will be 4 miles from campus.  the old one was 15 miles from campus.  Factor in NY/NJ trafiic and it's a big deal.

Was looking at Seton Hall Law School (a long three from the arena) for a time and was excited about potentially being within driving distance of three Big East arenas.

I ultimately decided on SLU Law, but let me tell you, when I saw the arena under construction when I flew to Newark, the area around that arena is SHAY-DEE. Hopefully it brings some development to the area, because I was walking around at like....noon...on a sunny day and it was still a picture of urban blight.
