I just flipped over to ESPN going between channels, and I believe they said Crowder was the 2nd player ever (Manning in the 1988 NCAA championship) to have 25 points, 15 rebounds and 5 steals in a game (I know it says 4 steals under stud of the game, but don't know what is official).  I saw the game at a sports bar, so couldn't hear any commentary and just getting  back so haven't read anything, but can anyone confirm if I heard that right?

I've heard 5 steals, but espn and yahoo had 4 listed when I looked.  Will update if needed when MU's box score has been posted.

the ESPN box says 5 steals, but I don't know if anything is official now, but mainly wanted to see if Manning was the only other guy to ever go 25/15/5 if it is 5.  I mean, they've only been playing this tournament for 72 years, so it's not that big a deal.

Steals don't matter anyway, only points and rebounds do

I would he had more of those than K Jones will.

Sorry, too many beers.  Not even sure what I was trying to say.

And I'm not going to root against Kevin Jones though.  Even though I believe Crowder was clearly the best player in the Big East, it was a close call on All-American due to Kevin Jones' dominance of K-State and Baylor.  It's like saying all Jones did was hit 40 homers and drive in 120 runs, while Crowder went 35/110 and hit 10 times as many doubles, stole lots more bases, and was a much better fielder.  Crowder was better, but Jones' complete dominance of the offensive boards like no other was worthy of All-American too, so I wish him no will.  However, dickie V did say something about having initially though Jones deserved BEAST player of the year but after watching Crowder, something or other, so glad the CBS audience was able to see him do what we've seen him do most of the year.

I recall watching David Robinson (Naval Academy) destroy a higher ranked Syracuse in 1986 (Sweet 16) with 35 pts, 25 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots. Vernon Butler had 25 pts and 15 rebounds as well for Navy.  4 guys fouled out trying to guard Robinson.

College Gameday guys all pick MU over the Racers, except Vitale. Lots of praise for how MU plays and says we are a bigger, better version of Murray State.

Yes, you are right.  I mean specifically 25 points, 15 rebounds, 5 STEALS - but certainly you are right that they and perhaps others have had a 25/15/5 of some other combination like this.

The fact that our power forward is the 7th best steals guy in any BCS conference is amazing, but follows the Lazar Hayward example.  He was 88th in the country stealing the ball 3.6% of opponents trips down the court, while Jae is 25th in teh country stealing it 4.2% of trips.
