Saw Montana play in The Big Sky Conference and they were pushing teams around with no problem.  Bucky may be in for a surprise themselves when they try their Big (bore) Ten style of play on a team that isn't afraid of them, doesn't care who they are and with refs who might just NOT listen to Bo "My team has never committed a foul, ever" Ryan.

Could see that incredulous look of his the whole game as the Grizzlies won't be awed by Bucky and their slowwwwwwww  play.

Just can't believe ESPN thinks they have no chance of being upset, but Marquette does.

Chip on the shoulder time!!

"I went into a restaurant one night and ordered lobster, and the waiter brought me one with a claw missing. He told me that in the back there's a tank they keep the lobsters in and while they're in there, they fight and sometimes one loses a claw. I told him to bring me a winner."  Al McGuire

QuoteNo. 14 Iona* vs. No. 3 Marquette (West)
Predicted chance of upset: 18.1 percent
* If advance past BYU in first-round game

I'm assuming you are referring to this page.  If so, that's because the Giant Killers feature uses a very specific statistical approach to determine the teams that are most likely to pull off an upset based on characteristics similar to previous upsets.  Three-point shooting, good turnover margin, good defensive rebounding, are some of the factors that they believe mean a low-seeded team has a good chance to pull of an upset.

On the other side, they look at the "Giants" that are prone to be upset using some similar statistics: bad three-point defense, turnover happy, bad offensive rebounding, and high percentage of offense comes from FTs.

So, based on these metrics, their system predicts that Iona could upset us, because they excel in some of those areas.

I don't think that we can exactly claim some sort of anti-MU/pro-Wisconsin ESPN bias because of this--its simply a result of statistics (and more because Iona excels at some of those Giant Killer stats, not because MU is particularly vulnerable.)

GGGG

Please stop being reasonable.  Scoopers love to act victimized by ESPN.

Warriors 79

Actually none of the above.  Don't feel there is any bias against Marq by ESPN or are they pro-Bucky, although Bo Ryan seems to get a pass each year for his "style" of basketball.  And don't care about the statistical model, either. Nor do I feel victimized.

Was just looking at the seedings (which is one of the stats they use in Giant Killers) and Bucky as a 4 seed would at least initially seem to  fall in the category of "Giant."

PS  I also just love to marvel at how absolutely incredulous Ryan looks every time a foul is called on one of his players. He has coached for so long and kudos to how he can make it look like a foul has NEVER happened to his team before.  He should go to Hollywood with that act, or at least a cruise ship...:)

Gasser does it worse than Bo.  And it's not really even close.

muball

agree on Gasser and he does push it to the limit with some cheap shots, like at halftime against Indiana in the Bigxx tourney

MUMac

I really do not like Gasser's play or act.  He is a whiny little beotch.  Can't believe the officials allow the crap he pulls during a game.
