And they're still in the tournament?  I think the NCAA Tournament needs contraction almost as bad as the NBA.

Dawson Rental

Can't be sure of that tournament thing anymore.  Everyone assumed that they'd finish at least 9-9.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Soft bubble this year

CtownWarrior

they have to make a run in the BET if they want  to dance, even with the soft bubble.

Windyplayer

Shame on UCONN. If they make the tourney now, barring a deep run in the BEast tourney, I'll be really disapponted.

muwarrior69

If UConn makes the tournament and USF is out I guess playing the games does not meam mutch.

If I were the BEast commish, I'd DEMAND that USF get UConn's bid.  No heart at all.  Blow a 14 point lead from the 12 minute mark when your tourney is hanging by a thread?  Gimme 10 Jae Crowder kids before one Lamb or Napier.

Edit.  I did a little more work.  They've won 3 freakin' games since MLK weekend, and one of those was DePaul.  Losers.  NIT. Eat it.

Windyplayer

Blaney will really enjoy a peaceful offseason as schools wouldn't touch his door with a ten-foot pole to fill their head coaching vacancies.

I think he is a good fit for UConn.  I hope, neigh I pray, that UConn is smart enough to immediately give the job to Blainey when Calhoun announces he is hanging it up!

CTWarrior

I watched the game and they sure miss Calhoun.  They are so lazy at times (particularly Lamb), which is startling to see from a UConn team for weeks on end.  Calhoun would not stand for that.  He has never been a great offensive X's and O's coach, but he gets great players and then gets them to play defense like their lives depended on it.

you are joking about Blainy correct?  They have 2 lottery picks and cannot beat providence and there D intensity is terrible.

The Bigger question is Kevin Ollie being involved with this remove him from consideration?  I had heard he was the the next coach.

Way better hire then blainy.

For whom?

brewcity77

This is the first time I've had any doubt about UConn. I still think they get in at 8-10, their resume is simply too good, but Pitt is absolutely a must-win, and they can't afford another bad loss in the tournament. 2 BET wins would lock them back in (provided they beat Pitt), but 0-1 would have them chewing off their fingernails come Selection Sunday.

TallTitan34

Has a team three games under .500 in conference play ever gotten into the tournament with an at-large bid?  Granted it will be either 2 or 4 when the timnes comes.

Yes, at least 2 6-10 conference teams have made it. Pretty sure FSU and Nova did.

2 lottery picks?

dwaderoy2004

Drummond and Lamb are both likely lottery picks.

The Equalizer

Blaney is 72 years old.  He's not a candidate for another head coaching job--UConn or elsewhere.

My guess is that if Drummond and Lamb leave at the end of this year, Calhoun and Blaney both retire--possibly with some prodding, and the coaching carousel starts all over again.

Uconn is going to go into rebuilding mode.  School appears committed to high-level success, and if they get the right guy as HC they will be contending again by 2015.

CTWarrior

If I was UConn Kevin Ollie would be coaching in Calhoun's absence.  He can't do any worse.

If the sanctions stick and there is a postseason ban on UConn next year, I imagine any player who expects next year to be their last may bolt for another school (Oriakhi comes to mind).  You would think that such a ban would pretty much insure Lamb and Drummond move on to the NBA.  They already have a light class coming in, so next year could be very rough for them.

Calhoun will not want to leave UConn in that state.  I think he will want to help turn it around before he leaves, if his health allows.

Just to be clear, as it seems some did not catch it, I was hoping, praying from Marquette's perspective.  In no way did I ever think he would be a candidate.  I guess I best use teal in the future.

dwaderoy2004

Don't give in to the teal.  It wasn't, and shouldn't ever, be necessary.
