WVU and the Big East settled their mutual suits.  WVU will be gone next season, but is paying the Big East $20 million for the expedited departure.  Apparently the Big12 is kicking in about $9 million of that amount.

Will the remaining schools split up the $20 million, or will the Big East use it to pay the new members exit fees?

Well, since they are having trouble finding someone to join for next year.  Not sure they'll have to pay any exit fees.

I don't know about you guys, but I'll miss playing against Huggins every year.  I appreciated the way they played under Beilein, too.

So, that means just 7 for football and 15 for basketball next year, right?

+1. WV was always a good, competitive team. And i'll slightly miss Huggins too. I always thought he was a huge d-bag (and maybe he somewhat still is), but seeing his reaction to the injured Butler vs. Duke, will forever change my opinion of him.

That is correct.  And my guess is that Syracuse and Pitt will get out a year early, and almost for free, which would mean 11 for football and 17 for basketball.  In 2015 it will be 12 for football.

Of course, that assumes Louisville doesn't leave too...

We've been battling Huggins nearly every year since 1991.  Damn right I'm going to miss him.  Maybe we can get him hired at SMU or Houston?  I cannot believe we're getting the 2 worst (RPI) teams in CUSA.

I do not think they will get out for less than  it cost West Virginia to leave early.

Adios,Hillbillys, can't say I'll miss you all

I watched "The Express: The Ernie Davis Story" over the weekend.  There's a rough scene totally stereotypical whether fictionalized or not when Syracuse visited West Virginia.

The way they are playing, the men's basketball team is history this year!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I would be surprised if it wouldn't.  WVU got out two years early.  Syracuse and Pitt only would be getting out one year early.  The ACC has said that they were happy to wait (ie, they aint ponying up any $$ like the Big 12 did), while the Big 12 had financial incentives in their TV contract to buy WVU out.  Finally the BE is in a clusterf*ck next year if both of them stay, and six new members are joining for football.

I would be real surprised if they get too much more than $5 million apiece.

bilsu

If they leave for next season it would be two years early. They will not be leaving for less than $20 million. They owe $5, if they leave with the proper notice. I suspect they will leave a year early around $10 million. As far as the money being divided up, it would make sense that the football schools get more than the basketball schools.

Oh combined $20 million.  That makes sense.  Still a little high IMO, but that's at least in the ballpark.  Good point about the $5 million that would need to be paid anyway.
