Another in a long line of underwhelming recruits to Illinois during the Weber era.  It's too bad for Weber the person, I really like him and love his coaching ability.  But Illinois is suffering as a program and my guess is he has another 3-4 years there before being shown the door.  Disliking Illinois as I do and the fact that it should help MU in it's ability to recruit Chicago it is a good thing, just unfortunate for a class guy.
As any coach will tell you winning is 10% coaching and 90% talent.  Mike Deane and Weber are two examples of excellent coaches who's inability to recruit at the level of talent they inherited ultimately will lead to their demise.  No matter how great of a coach, 10% cannot overcome 90%.

3-4 years? He has 2 left now in my opinion. With Tubby and Sampson now in the area things are getting more crowded in the Midwest/Great Lakes area with good coaches going after the same number of players.
But I like to throw handfuls...

Obviously, the only reason this is even remotely "news" is that he is Michael Jordan's son. Based on the offers he received it sounds like he was evaluated overall as a mid-major talent. As with all high school kids, I wish Jeff Jordan the best and hope that he has a great college experience at Illinois. Good luck to him.

When is the last time a story about a walk-on selecting a school was a headline on the Chicago Tribune website among others?

jage

he's a "preferred" walk on. he's getting press like he's an all-american, 5 star recruit. leave it to illinois to over hype things and kiss up to michael jordan...fyi...the world doesn't revolve around michael jordan and his family (or the cubs). i want to vomit every time i go to an online news outlet and see this story is on it.

You're right. Based on what I've seen on ESPN the world revolves around the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.

More than two thirds of ESPN's audience is on East coast time, and its headquarters are located between Boston and NY.  Unless you want to mass produce more viewers and or move the headquarters, that won't change any time soon.

it is also the best basketball player ever's son, it was one headline in a paper, i don't think the world is revolving around Michael Jordan or the Cubs, personally i haven't heard or seen much about either of them recently on ESPN.  Red Sox and Yankees, an entirely different story...

I think its a good move... Jeff Jordan is a walk-on, which means they dont have to waste a scholly on a player who will bring a lot of press to Champaign... also, some players might now want to play at Illinois for a chance to play with Jordan's son, and meet Michael Jeffrey Jordan (in my best Mariotti voice, gosh I hate that man)
