While yesterday was difficult, at least the Packers made it to the Playoffs.  But, take solace in this loss if that gets you through the putrid finish of a Bears season.  I will take solace and remember with a smile the Packers hoisting the Hallas Trophy in the locker room at Soldier Field.  To me, beating the Bears at their home for the NFC Championship will trump ANYTHING you try to throw.  ANYTHING.  And that is not even adding in Hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for the 4th time two weeks later!

Brutal effort by Green Bay, pretty perplexing. Giants thumped them. Surprised that only team to lose at home in the playoffs was the Packers.

I was there and they never looked mentally prepared.  I wonder if the situation surrounding the death of Philben's son had a negative impact.  The Giants did not do anything special yesterday, nothing the Packers had not overcome all season.  6 lost fumbles all year and 3 yesterday (should have been 4)?  Yikes.

Rodgers left 4 TD passes on the field with inaccuarcy.  Add to that, the drops - Jennings in the endzone almost always makes that (although, he pushed off) catch.

The end of the half was as poor of playing as I have ever witnessed live.  First, can't tackle Jacobs in the field of play?  If they do, half over.  Then, watching Peprah hope the ball sails over their heads so he can intercept it, rather than trying to make a play - game was really over then.  All the air was out of the stadium on that play.  No noise generated the remainder of the game.

I agree, brutal effort.

Stellar onsides attempt for no good reason makes you wonder about the thought process.

Onside kick was plain stupid and the fourth and five was equally as bad. Good teams to not need gimmick plays. We learned yesterday how hard it is to win when you lose turnover battle. During our hot streak the D made plays to chane the bgame and yesterday our O returned the favor. I do think though that is Rodgers had a 122GB rating yesterday we still win the game. In my opinion it shows that field position and positive turnover ratio makes the game much easier.

Yesterday, on the way up to Green Bay I said to my son I expected an on-side kick out of McCarthy sometime during the game.  I think he really felt the D could not stop the Giants.  In the 1st half, he was correct.  Needed one way to get the edge.

In the end, it did not effect anything.  The FG was blocked.  I would not have taken the chance.  I watched the Giants up front on the kick offs.  They did not leave early.  Stayed in position, just in case.  McCarthy should have noticed that as well.

I really think McCarthy outcoached himself.  I know last week was tough for him, he is very close to Philbin and Philbin's family.  I wonder if that impacted the game prep more than just not having Philbin for the week.  It really seemed as if the Packers did not have a clue how to attack the Giants.

The Giants were a bad match-up for GB. They can run, pass and play good D. The Packers can pass and pass and get the occasional INT. The Packers have a bad D and their biggest strength can be vastly effected by cold weather. Look at their run last season in the playoffs:

- Won at Philly, got a 120-yard rushing outlier from Starks, while Rodgers threw for just 180.
- Won at Atlanta in a dome, put up huge passing numbers.
- Won at Chicago in an ugly game. Rodgers had 0 passing TDs and 2 picks.
- Won the Super Bowl in a dome, put up huge passing numbers.

I'm not trying to take anything away from last year's team. They won the SB and they deserved it. The point is that, if you think about it, the idea of building a pass-heavy/pass-first team that plays in northern Wisconsin has some holes in it. It obviously worked for them last season, but it came back to bite them this season. As a Bears fan, my fear is that they're going to add a running game next season.

I re-watched the game on DVR last night, came away even more puzzled. That was not the look or feel of a 15-1 team, that was a 6-10 team that was out there last night. Not sure what to take away from it. I can't/won't discount the tragedy that happened with Philben's son, but McCarthy just had a confussed look most of the game. He said afterwards they had a great week of practice and were more than prepared (which they should have been). His coaching decisions though didn't necesarily reflect that.

Just an odd, odd effort from a 15-1 team that won the championship a year ago. Too many penalties, really poor tackling (especially from Matthews), dropped passes, just very odd all around. I didn't think Rodgers played as bad as has been mentioned in the media, but he did leave points out there. Thought the secondary would not have been that bad a liability as the season went on, but they got lit up this year (thought like last year they'd step it up come playoff time). Woodson played brutal, no other way to coat it.

Really thought this was the first time their lack of running game caught up with them. Grant's not the player he was three/four seasons ago. Stark is a nice secondary back, can have a good string of games, but is not an every down/carry the load back.

If it wasn't for the two bad officiating calls, that game is easily a 43-10 type game (take those 2 GB TD's off the board, give NYG two FG's).

Packers are still the favorite to win the North next year (and years to come). Cap room is an issue for them going into this offseason (they have the least amount of cap space of any team in the North) and have some key players to re-sign.

GGGG

Dish, that is a nice summary.  Just over 24 hours later and it seems inexplicable to me.  Look, I know they really hadn't been playing all that well since about the Oakland game.  I'm thinking that they weren't sharp due to the rest.  But that doesn't excuse the coaching.  I mean, McCarthy had made very few mistakes for over a year.  But he seemed to make about a dozen just yesterday.

I mean, I don't want to use the Philbin thing as an excuse, but man...they just seemed kind of "blah" on offense the entire game....from the playcalling to the execution to the turnovers...

This might sound odd, coming from a Bears fan, but I was disappointed in the Packers. As a pure football fan, I wanted to see them play like they had 90% of the year, and have a hell of a game with the Giants. Teams have bad days, I understand that, just didn't see that one coming. Bears fan in me knows they'll be a beast again next year.

I remember the year the Queens were 15-1.  Did they win the Superbowl that year?  Or any year?

My favorite Vikings trivia.  Four Superbowl appearances, 0 leads.  Never once had the lead in ANY of those 4 Superbowl appearances.  Even the Buffalo Bills had the lead!
