Pakuni

First pick of the second round (#20 overall) in the MLS Draft.
Headed to the Montreal expansion team.

Henry Sugar

A warrior is an empowered and compassionate protector of others.

Golden Avalanche

That's very impressive. Congratulations to the young man.

Is he the first Marquette guy to play pro soccer? I know our team hasn't been very good over the years, but the MLS has been around for 15 years (just a guess).
Bring back FFP!!!

Kid was very good and was the most effective player we've had on set pieces during the Louis Bennett era.

i'm pretty into soccer on most levels except college. I know bennett was supposed to turn around our junk of a men's program. he started when i was still at marquette, but i haven't paid much attention lately.  anyone have insight as to whether he is finally starting to succeed?

Yes. First MU player to go pro (at least in MLS): http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/011212aaa.html

And yes, the men's soccer team is finally doing well. They finished 7-2-0 in Big East play and won their division this past year. A far cry from when they were finished with just one win a couple of years ago.

Also--Bennett and his assistants won Big East Coaching Staff of the Year this year. Nice to see another sport doing well.

I saw that finish. But they didn't make the NCAA tourney right? How is that possible?

This is the first year Bennett's program has shown life and in stellar fashion in BE play.  Little up and down in non-conference play and have now lost to UWM two years in a row.  The four previous years sucked.

Men's tournament is a 48 team setup instead of 64 like the women's tournament.

That, and they finished 9-8-2 overall.

Seems that quite a few sports have really picked up their success level once we entered the Big East.

speaking of other sports doing well, has Mike Van Sickle made the tour yet?
