It probably has alot to do with their pace...they are big, but I think there pace would definitely give them alot more opportunities at rebounds

UW plays the 11th fastest pace in the nation.  For Offensive Rebounding percentage, they're only #50 and #149 (defense).

In other news, three of the top four teams in the nation at OR% are Syracuse, Pitt, and UConn.

And for no other reason than to rub it in how boring they are, Wisconsin plays at the 345th fastest pace, dead last in all of DI basketball.

Pertaining to UWash, couldn't this be a function of the fact that they don't shoot well, but defend well and force teams into bad shots?  Both scenarios would create gobs of rebounds.

The numbers suggest they don't defend particularly well.  #74 overall defensively.  #106 at defensive eFG%.  They're /decent/ at offensive rebounding, but not great.

I bet if you look at their raw offensive rebounding numbers, they look great simply based on pace and that being a relative strength.

They are 7th nationally in Pom's Effective Height....very athletic bigs. Their guards are talented but "developing" in running the game as they miss Issiah Thomas (not the HOFer) as their PG who inexplicably left early for the NBA. Wroten, the frosh, is going to be a stud but still raw.  Ross is the most talented athletically and will be our toughest match-up. 11th is tempo so bring the track shoes.  Tough game for MU after the big emotional win, quick turn-around and an academic week.

Hank - Since you have the numbers so readily available, could you take Washington's raw numbers and give the best comparable teams to them in each category of importance?

That would be the tits, especially going forward as categories become developed instead of anomalies.

Well, raw numbers are in a different data pool than the pomeroy numbers, and the rationalization of the two is more work than I feel like doing.

I do like the idea of doing comparables for the team.

I think we do have to watch rebounding since this will be a more fast paced game.  What a difference this game will be compared to the Badgers!

We probably need to slow it down for Washington a tad to avoid a total track meet.  I am not yet conviced we have a great transition defense.  This game will definitely determine how good our transition defense is.

Back to the rebounding though, if we can get a decent amount of offensive rebounds that may scare them off those crazy jail breaks they do after the ball hits the rim on Marquete's end of the floor.

Still have nightmares about that first round loss in the 2010 tourney.  REVENGE!!!   >:(
