Why all of the fouls?

Is it me or are the refs making themselves too much of a factor in final four games with all of the fouls.  The thing that is worse for the casual fan of course is that that becomes all of the "insight" from the genius Billy Packer.  The conspiracy theorist part of me makes me want to say that they are doing this because they know Packer has absolutely nothing else to offer except the occasional this star player has to learn how to take over a game but I won't push that too hard now.  Thoughts?
