Air Force, and consequently Navy, remain anything but a sure-thing for the Big East. Now talk about San Diego St and Fresno St is emerging. Maybe I'm out-of-the-loop, but I would rather grab Nevada and UNLV along with BYU and Boise if the BEast has to form a Western Division to appease the olympic sports issue.

"Although moving the football program to the Big East is an appealing option, sources with knowledge of academy superintendent Lt. Gen. Mike Gould's thought process, who did not want their names used because Gould has not spoken publicly about realignment in weeks, said Gould might be leaning toward staying in the Mountain West."

What's next?   Hawaii to the Big EAST?

while I would love to see MU playing in San Diego I can't see this alignment

Unless we start playing football,  you wont see MU in San Diego. The talk is about football, not all sports.

At some point, I would think some schools would say "Yes we will join, if you include our basketball team". I just do not see the attrraction for San Diego St joining the Big East in football, but I could see them wanting to join in basketball. We know schools can find a home for their teams outside of football. The question is whether they could outside of basketball and football. Perhaps in the future conferences will make a trade. For example to save costs West Virginia minor sports will stay in the Big East and Boise St. minor sports will play in the Big 12.

If Air Force doesn't join, then that makes it much less likely that Boise State will join as well.

An article in today's New Haven Register confirmed the Big East is speaking with BYU.

As I understand it, Boise State is the gatekeeper.  If they say "yes", then Air Force and Navy will likely jump on the boat too. Of course, that's "old" information from last Friday.

I think thats mostly accurate. Boise mainly wants a western (more Mountain-west) school with them, so it doesn't necessarily have to be Air Force. I've also heard that Boise and others (SMU, Houston) are pushing for a western division, which would allow them to bring in their non-football sports. Boise apparently may have a hard time finding a place to put their other sports.
