An often discussed topic: scheduling.  The New Haven Register has an article this morning on the challenege of UConn scheduling games.  Talks about how they schedule and why, adjustments for TV, adjustments to maximize revenue, etc.

QuoteOdjakjian said college basketball falls behind professional sports, both major and minor, conventions and even boat shows at most off-campus venues in terms of priority. His primary example is Madison Square Garden, when on Jan. 13, UConn will play St. John's — at 9:30 p.m., originally scheduled for a half-hour earlier.

This is an interesting factor, now that Marquette has the 2nd pick of dates at the BC, I'd think we can be more flexible than we have in the past.

QuoteSince 2003, ticket sales have generated $2.8 million in revenue over three years for UConn, while television (from the Big East and NCAA) generated $6.4 million over the last four. Total revenue, including radio, for 2005 was $7.7 million. For 2006, it was $6.85 million (see chart).

This is something I hadn't considered as much.  With the new BE TV contract starting next year, will it free up some of Marquette's home scheduling woes?  Will Crean be able to do 2 closed scrimages (ala KSU), or start another home & home?  I'm not sure how much MU is used to making through TV contracts, but it certainly seems they'd be making more with the BE than they were with CUSA.

very interesting article.. I'll probably have more patience waiting for the schedule to be released next year! :)

wonder if we can buy our way into getting another schollie ;)
