...doing today's picks going game by game.  They come to Pitt v. ND and he says, "I'm a big east guy and the big east stays together, I'm going with Notre Dame".  Nice dig Huggs!

I'm not a fan of Huggs...

...but +100 to that   8-)

First time I will be rooting hard for ND in years.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

I'd be curious to see what he said if WVU was accepted to the SEC.

GGGG

I won't root for ND.  They could save the BE anytime if they really cared.  They just use the conference to park their other sports because the conference let's them.

They are saving the Big East by not jumping to ACC or Big 10. Notre Dame goes to Big 10 and Big 10 probably takes Rutgers to get to 14. Notre Dame goes to ACC and ACC takes either Uconn or Rutgers. Besides that at this point I think they stay with the basketball only schools which makes the basketball only league stronger, if the league does implode. So while they are not joining in football they are in fact saving the league.

GGGG

They are acting in their own self-interest, and that just happens to coincide with the interests of the BE.

To further that, ND goes to Big 10, even if Big 10 takes Missouri or Texas, ACC will poach UConn and Rutgers to get to 16. The only reason the ACC isn't acting on those teams is because they're hoping to land ND.

If ND commits, no matter where they commit, it will start the dominoes falling all over again. Unless the Irish joined the Big East, we'd probably be down 4-5 teams within a week. The Big East would be over if ND went anywhere else.

Everybody is acting in their own interests. Doesn't seem fair to single out Notre Dame for criticism for that.
Really, why is Notre Dame somehow obliged to "save" the Big East?

GGGG

I agree.  Ask Huggs.  He's the one that brought it up.

Why is ANY ONE SCHOOL obligated to save the Big East?

Fixed.
That is so funny - untold my children the same thing yesterday - first time I've ever rooted for notre dame.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

because adding their football team to the Big East would bring a sense of legitimacy to BE Football. They are a proven $$$ maker. People will watch them to either A) Root for them or B) Root against them, any way people are tuning in. Which is why NBC signed them to a deal and the ACC/Big10 are licking their chops to get them.

The question was not "how", but "why".
