60 seconds with Marquette University basketball coach Tom Crean

By Greg Stoda

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Tuesday, March 27, 2007

Staff writer Greg Stoda spoke with Marquette University basketball coach Tom Crean, who showed up Monday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium for a spring training game between the Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals.

We're used to seeing a coach named Bob Knight at spring training, because he's friends with Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. What brings you here?

I've been friends with Tony for four years, I'd say, and I'm a big baseball fan. We have partial season tickets to the Brewers in Milwaukee, and that's our summer entertainment. It's my first spring training. I'm having a great time.

Would you give us a Final Four pick?

I'm going to stick with our league (Big East) and go with Georgetown, but it's a terrific group. I love what Florida has done. It's impressive just getting back to the Final Four as a defending champion. It's a great team.

You coached Heat star Dwyane Wade in college. Any inside information on whether he's going to come back from the shoulder injury to play this season?

No, not really. He called me (Sunday) night, but I missed him. I do know he's working hard on rehabilitation, and he has told me he wants to come back.

Apparantly not enough time to ask him about Kentucky.

Ludum habemus.
