McGary has just cut his list to six schools and we're not on it. Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan, Duke and Kentucky are the schools he cited. Disappointed to hear this, but still hoping for Dunn or Cleare.

I knew this last night when you were giving me so much grief about my comments that MU would not make the cut but I was told not to post it as fact.

I was just trying to temper the expectations last night.

As I said last night, if we continue to win consistently, win some marquee games and make a few more deep (sweet sixteen or better) tourney runs we'll be able to land some of these guys.

Buzz is still somewhat of an unknown in terms of his coaching and recruiting and when we are going against the likes of K, Roy, Matta, Calipari, Gillespie etc recruits know what to expect. The old adage that "the proof is in the pudding" really applies here. It's going to take time and if Buzz is a man of his word, we should have the time to become a real contender for the top, top recruits.

Purdue coaches think they are in the running.

I think what would help us more than anything is getting a big to the NBA. It feels like a chicken-or-the-egg type scenario. Top level bigs won't consider us because we don't put top level bigs in the NBA. But it seems the reason we don't is only because they don't come here. I noticed that McGary (in the Scout article) mentioned Florida and Michigan's track record with developing bigs. I guess he has a point about Florida, but Michigan? Who? Courtney Sims?

Getting Otule or Gardner to the league would really help us, but I just don't see it with Otule, and Gardner seems like a long-shot unless he becomes more of a defensive force and can improve his vertical.

Outside of that, we might need someone like Steve Taylor to commit and have a growth spurt. If he sprung up an inch or two to a legitimate 6'9" and managed to put on weight up to 235-240, he'd have the NBA PF body and maybe if he got there (still a big maybe for a guy who has yet to play his senior year of high school) he'd help convince some bigs that we're worth a look...4-5 years down the road.

I really want Dunn, but long-term, I wonder if Shaquille Cleare might do more for our program. A top-25 recruit and a legitimate big man...that could be exactly what we need.

Of course, we could always try for both and just oversign by one...

GGGG

I know everyone is getting impatient regarding this top 10 talent coming to MU, but Buzz is doing this right...keep getting top 75-100 kids...keep getting to the NCAA and competing....keep placing players in the NBA....and they will come eventually.

Exactly, outside of Michigan, look at the list. MU is not in the upper class for CBB programs. But if Buzz stays we will be.

MU doesn't need future NBA centers to be successful.

They just need to recruit and develop solid college centers. I know they don't grow on trees, but they are out there. You can roll the dice on a guys like Mbao, who had some size and needed some skills or Gardner, who has some skills, but too much size.

If you hit on 50%, you will probably be ok. Barro is a great example, especially if they could have limited his play for the first 2 seasons (like Gardner).

It's not a perfect science, but it really doesn't need to be.
