Exactly why I vehemently disagree with the idea that a good DePaul is good for MU.

I love this article, it made me smile. That said, I could live with some Chicago recruiting battles if DePaul was at least decent. I'm not saying I want a top-10 team 70 miles south of us, but a team that at least has a chance to make the NCAAs or NIT would improve the rivalry.

Either way, love to have Taylor here, and glad for his focus on winning. We'll definitely give him his chance to win plenty of games.

I don't know either way about DePaul... but I'm certainly of the opinion that a good Wisco or a good UW-M are good for MU.

Looking at the historry of the two programs. When MU is going up, DePaul is going down and vice versa. MU was domininant from the late 60's through 77-78. MU loss Marck Aguire to DePual and lost to DePaul in the NCAA tournament in 1979. DePaul then when on a great run, where they had the second best record in the country for most of, if not all of the 80's, while MU's program declined. MU started rising under O'Neal and DePaul started falling. There were a few years when who was better went back and foourth and than MU, became consistly good, while DePaul became consistantly bad. Generally, I agree a good DePaul is bad for MU. However, I now think a stronger DePaul could help keep MU and DePaul in B ig East.

I don't think a regression equation would confidently predict this relationship, as I would think the correlation coefficient is something like .4. DePaul had some good years when we were good and some bad years when we were bad too.

There is enough talent in Cihcago for both teams, plus a big part of the Big 10/12 too. Heck I'd like to see DePaul again be a Top 20 team because it's good for both MU and Depaul and for college basketball in general.

one recruit could be the difference between a final four team and an first round exit. i can't understand why depaul being good enough to steal that recruit from us would be a good thing.
