If you haven't heard by now, Jim's in the "Where Are They Now?" SI issue which should be on or exiting the newsstands.

The section he's featured in (along with his wife) relates to NBA's 7 footers.

But after reading his ESPN Milwaukee Blog, there was an interesting bit of trivia around a special event that just took place a few weeks ago:

"Sports Illustrated, really?
Jul 05, 2011 -- 11:50pm
So the Mrs. & I somehow managed to make our way into the latest issue of Sports Illustrated.  SI writer, Pablo Torre, did a really nice "Where are they now?" story on several former NBA big men and was nice enough to include me as part of the update.  While my current status isn't news to either person who reads this blog, I found the rest of the article very interesting.  I especially appreciated Mark Eaton & Shawn Bradley's openness in talking about the struggles they had growing up as seven-footers.

I'm not convinced the numbers on seven-footers in that story are accurate (I think there are more of us out there), but I do think for young kids who are growing up tall, that article can offer some hope and inspiration at a time when kids may be struggling to deal with a world that sometimes treats them like a walking freak show, instead of a human being.

The latest sign of the impending sportsapocalypse is the general unavailability of Sports Illustrated on "the newsstand."  Pick 'N Save doesn't have it, Walgreen's doesn't carry it and none of the gas stations I checked did either, although all of them seemed to keep plenty of copies of WWE Magazine on the shelf.  We ended up driving all the way down to Barnes & Noble, just to snag a few copies, after my attempt to steal a copy out of my dentist's office ended in an epic fail (nothing at all for the testosterone crowd in that waiting room).  On an interesting side note, the photographer's assistant for this shoot was none other than Dan Fitzgerald's fiance, Dominika!

I'd like to extend a special "thank you" to Randy Johnson of D&Z Customs and Jeff Schwartz of Schwartz Performance for letting us use their very cool cars in our shoot!"

She was apparently the center for the NCAA Championship North Carolina team from the mid-90s.  She is his second wife I guess, and the jist of the SI article was that she was the first person he had met to understood what it was like to be so tall.

Who cares about Mac,  I'm staring at chick in pump's ass and visually outlining her thong.

77, did you ever consider axing the damn dentist if you could just have the stupid magazine? If he said no, that would be grounds enough to can the cheap SOB.

Does Jim and his wife have any children? It would be nice if they had a few boys. If both mom and dad played basketball, you would think their children would have an interest as well. Also, their children would obviously be very tall. A combination of height, athleticism, and being taught properly from early on by parents that played the game would be a potent combination. It doesn't hurt that Jim is extremely loyal to MU either.

I may be off base, but a guy can dream, right?

GO MU!

- Jim's wife has great length.  What is her wingspan?

- Is it normal for guys to know what 'pumps' are and be able to identify them in a picture?  I've heard the term and I know that they are chick shoes, but couldn't point them out or describe them other than girls put them on their feet.

- If you ask your dentist if you can have their copy of Sports Illustrated, YOU are the cheap a$$.  I'm sure you'd curse patients out if they made such a request, 4never.  I can't imagine it's really THAT difficult to find the current issue of flipping SI.

- I'm thankful for so many of you ancient folks on this board.  It's makes me feel less old.  I went to school when Jim was there as a player... but at least not when Tex Winter was HC.

Wow! If Jim is 7 ft. how tall is his wife?

he's mentioned it before on the radio telecasts ... she is 6' 8"

You guys realize it was MacIlvaine and not 77 that tried to take the magazine from the dentist office... The blurb under the photo was from Jim's blog.

Jim has at least one son.  Two seasons ago Jim came to drum with the band pregame like he sometimes does and he brought along his son to play with him.  I cant for the life of me remember how old he was, but whatever age I thought he was (10 maybe) was two or three years older than he really was.  That kid's gonna be tall.

My read on his statement was that "no copies of SI were IN the dentist's office".........
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

Yeah, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, but those are sandals.

Pumps are just another name for high heels... as far as I know.

Gwen has been with Jim at numerous team functions ( in pumps ).  Easily 6'8" in sandals.

texaswarrior74

According to this article, she's 6'7"....her older sister is 6'8" by the way. It's an interesting read on how they met.

Sadly, I think he's actually referring to the girl in black flats.  So JayBee can be delighted that he got it wrong, and then mock me for getting it right.
