OU coaching search continues for athletic director Joe Castliglione

As his basketball coach search reaches day 10, Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione won't offer specifics about the process. He will, however, say he is encouraged by what he has encountered.

"Very. Absolutely," Castiglione said after attending an OU regents meeting on campus this morning. "The tradition of the Oklahoma basketball program is terrific. It sometimes gets undersold or is perhaps underappreciated, but if you step back and look at its history, the fact that there are four Final Fours, numerous Elite Eights, more Sweet 16s and conference championships. And our state-of-the-art facilties...

Stock of Marquette's Williams is rising

By Todd Rosiak

Cottingham said he's kept an open dialogue with Williams over the course of the season with regard to his deal as well as what he believes he needs to field a successful program at MU, and that more discussions will take place after the season.

"That doesn't have anything to do with what other people might recognize in him," Cottingham said. "We're doing that all the time. That's been our commitment to him since the day we hired him. We're going to do the right thing and treat him the right way, just as he's done the right thing and treated us the right way."

When asked if he believed Williams would remain as MU's coach, Cottingham was definitive in his response.

"Very much so," he said. "People should take him at his word."

Sounds like OU is after Bo!  But he's done now, so they can finally talk.

On a serious note, the OU AD isn't going to say - we're on strike three and hoping a candidate will make himself available soon.  I would beat that the OU AD has already started negotiating with Plan B while hoping to hit the home run with a Buzz, Brad Stevens or someone else still in a tournament (NIT/NCAA).

I agree.  And Cottingham isn't going to say, "Well, it's been nice, but Buzz is as good as gone."

That's the way the game is played.  Everyone tries to look like they're saying something, while they're actually saying nothing.

And for the record...I'm not suggesting that Buzz is leaving.  I think he'll stay.  I was just making the point that nothing these guys say means a damn thing until there's a press conference.  Look who Buzz is sitting next to at the press conference and you'll know where he's going to be coaching next season.
Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

StillaWarrior---Agreed. Whatever these guys are saying is probably 50% truth at best. We really cannot take much out of anyone's comments at this point. Their guy says they want Buzz and our guy says we want Buzz and that is most we can read into anything. I would hope we would be the leader in the clubhouse, but who knows.

I just hope we keep winning and Buzz stays.

One small difference is that one of the ADs for sure has talked to Buzz.  ;D

I agree that all of this is "reading the tea leaves." I will say, however, that the OU AD simply says he is very encouraged by he process. eladoesn't necessarily relate to Buzz Williams. MU's AD, on the other hand, very specifically addresses Buzz Williams. That's a pretty big difference.

As I've posted before, thestre is an understanding between Marquette and Buzz about his "availability" to other schools that was put in place when Buzz got the job. The understanding is that Buzz would not use the job as a "stepping stone" to other jobs and would stay and build at Marquette. This is reflected in the nearly $4 Million buyout provision in Buzz's contract.

How do you know this?

I hope Cottingham and Broeker have some coaching names in their database just in case.

Once again, AC... I have to agree.  More over, Cottingham has put his reputation on the line with that final quote. While most will call this "AD-speak," if Buzz were to leave, Cotts is going to look ignorant, naive, incompetent and foolish having said those words just weeks prior to his head coach's departure.

I would like to point out that Cotts didn't say "trust me," he said "trust Buzz."  There's a pretty big difference there for me to dismiss Cotts words as innocuous.

My odds that Buzz is at Marquette next year reached 100% a week ago.  Nothing over the last seven days has done anything to dissuade me from that position.  If Vegas was taking bets, I would be all-in on Buzz right now.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
