#15 out of the Sweet 16 for both guys. I'm gonna go ahead and guess they don't think we're gonna pull off the upset. Time to prove them wrong

#MUBB

No surprise there, we haven't won pretty and are one of the lower ranked teams remaining. I am somewhat surprised UNC cracked the top 6 on both of their lists, I didn't think they were very convincing in their W over Washington...

What is interesting is Brennan has UW #5 while Katz (didn't he graduate from UW?) has them at #14 just ahead if us.

Now THAT is a difference of opinion!

BRENNAN:
1. Ohio State
2. VCU
3. Kansas
4. Duke
5. Wisconsin
6. UNC
7. Kentucky
8. BYU
9. UConn
10. Florida
11. San Diego State
12. Arizona
13. Butler
14. Richmond
15. Marquette
16. Florida State

KATZ: OK. So far I'm at:

1. Ohio State
2. Kansas
3. Duke
4. Connecticut
5. North Carolina
6. VCU
7. Arizona
8. San Diego State

Now here's where it gets interesting. My next line of teams are:

9. Kentucky
10. Florida State
11. Butler
12. Florida
13. BYU
14. Wisconsin
15. Marquette
16. Richmond

I'm fine with being ranked #15 out of 16 teams. I'd be even happier with being ranked #8 out of 8 teams, and just fine with being #4 out of 4 teams. My ultimate hope, however, is to be ranked #1 out of 2 teams after the game is over.

It may be a dream, but we're one of 16 teams in the country still allowed to have that dream, so I'm holding on to it.

Brennan has VCU #2.

Why? Did you watch their games? VCU destroyed Georgetown and Purdue in convincing fashion. They are lightening quick and drained baskets from everywhere on the floor. If they keep playing like they did last weekend they are going to be very hard to beat.

I watched their play-in game and both teams looked awful. I didn't put much stock in the G'town win because the Hoyas have been awful without Wright. Purdue surprised me, but I still can't see how you'd rank them #2, ahead of Kansas and Duke. A team doesn't go from being widely considered maybe 60th best in the country to 2nd in the span of 5 days unless you beat three top-5 teams. They didn't beat any top-5 teams. It's a good run by them, and if they continue they can earn that type of ranking, but unless they had already knocked off Pitt, Notre Dame, and Duke (or three teams along that line) they aren't there yet.

Have you watched Georgetown or Purdue the last month or so?  They aren't exactly great or even good teams.  Both rely on two guys to win them games, which is tough to do if one is off.  And I'm assuming you watched VCU lose to James Madison, Drexel, and Old Dominion in the last month.  VCU has looked good against an easy tournament schedule so far, but that's it.  To have them above Kansas is an absolute joke.

Norm

OK, you guys aren't impressed with VCU. No problem. They won both games by 18 points and dominated tempo and were never really threatened in either game. My guess is we'll find out how good they are if they meet up with Kansas in the Elite 8 game. And I'd like VCU's chances in that game.

MUBurrow

I hope you're right and VCU does go to the final four. If that happens, we'll see another name join the familiar one for the 'must have coach of the moment' - sort of a 1 and 1a situation.

He's already on many of those lists.  If Buzz were to leave, I would want him on MU's as well.

I'd want to know, since he's been there all of 2 years, who recruited most of those players, etc.  Was this a situation that he inherited or did on his own.  I don't know this answer, I'm asking.

They also were widely considered not to be a tournament team with some pretty bad losses...what happened then that has changed now?  Are they similar to MU where they are finally hitting their stride in the tournament?

I know that Smart was well thought of at Florida and Clemson under Donovan and Pernell.  He was well thought of as a recruiter in those areas.  I know he was the recruiter for Jerai Grant.  I believe he was the lead recruiter at Clemson as well.

At VCU, I don't know how much credit he get's for recruiting those guys.  I like the style they play.

I have heard good things about him here (he is from Oregon, WI).  Very personable and a good relationship guy.  I am not concerned with his recruiting.

I prefer Buzz, but if Buzz were to leave, I would think long and hard at Smart.
