In Buzz's presser last night, with 6 minutes to go.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/ncaa/mens-tournament/video-highlights/?c=turner_mmod_mens_pressers

he talked about the synergy statistics and synergy film.  He said he looks at it but does not force it on the other coaches or players.  he said MU pays for it.

He also said the JFB, DJO and DG are "film freaks" (Buzz's description) and he occasionally shows them Synergy film but does mention it is from them.

Does anyone know what this service is about?

From the website, "real-time video-indexing statistical engine and online retrieval platform."

Sorry, I should have posted the link ... I don't know what this means.  Sounds like corporate speak to me.

Here's a better description from an espn article on Chris Bosh.

"Synergy -- or Synergy Sports Technology, if you prefer to call it by its full name -- is a company that supplies a mammoth analytics warehouse containing video and advanced stats to those who can afford the six-figure price tag. And not just elementary highlights and box score stats, mind you. You can find every video clip of every play in the NBA dating to as far as 2005 -- preseason, regular season and playoffs. Each video is clipped and charted as a play type and then entered into the database. Recently, Synergy has ventured into men's and women's college basketball as well as international ball."

My guess is that the most expensive version has sortable and searchable shot charts that link to indexed videos that feed into a kenpom-like database for teams and individual players.

I'm like a turtle, sometimes I get run over by a semi.

Coleman

Anything that gives us an advantage is well worth the price. Six figures or more.

Wow this is amazing!  Can really break down a team in no time.

We are using something very similar to this in a new NFL offering for fantasy football players via their TV.  Basically indexes every play of every game. It's very cool technology.
