Chicos - I'm all for MU/Buzz recruiting Top 50-Top 100 players such as Novak, Diener and Matthews.  DJO and Jimmy Butler's 3 point and FT shooting percentage has been right on par with Wes Matthews.  Not too many 3 point shooters out there like Novak...

Did you have an issue with the recruitment of Dominic James and Jerel McNeal?  After all neither were very good FT shooters or FG% shooters over their careers - yet they are in the Top 5 all time at MU in scoring.

But yes...I do equate a "traditional" player to generally be white...particularily when defined by you and your frequent desire for MU to field a team more like UW.

Then you are under a terrible assumption since I don't equate traditional to white.  Never have.  Best player on UW, isn't white.  Would I love a John Leuer?  Hell yes...he is white.  Who cares what race. 

Do I have an issue with the recruitment of DJ and McNeal...depends who else is on the team and what position they play.  DJ, no real issue.  He was a point guard and a scorer, not a shooter.  It did trouble me greatly his FT shooting, although that only got real bad his last year (first with Buzz).  A PG needs to shoot FT's at least 65% if not 70% since the ball is in his hands at the end of a game.

With McNeal...great player...drove me crazy.  I think you look at this stuff as a zero sum game as if we didn't have McNeal we would have no one in his place.  For me to answer your question, I have to know what different guy we got instead in order to answer it.

Personally, I'd like to have a team that has various pieces that can beat a team a number of ways.  Inside, outside, the dribble drive, defensively.  Maybe I'm asking for too much, but I feel like we don't have 2 of those 4...at least not consistently. 

I'd love a traditional point guard like Taylor....in a heartbeat.  Give me another traditional player like Novak, Matthews, Diener and throw in a non-traditional like DJ...fantastic.

People often can't control their emotions in times where they are are too high or too low when watching sports...that makes if very psychological IMO.  How often at work do you shout out when you hear good news vs what someone does watching or attending a game during a good play...just one example of many.  Emotion is the core of being a fan and leads fans to often do things they don't during the other parts of their lives..."that vast majority" part of their lives.

Your point recalls, Oscar Wyatt, a wealthy oil trader, who has a saying, .."my money doesnt cry". The primary reward and purpose of most business is monetary and measurable.

The only reward of sports fandom is emotional, and non monetary. The measure of a fan's response, by definition of its currency, is an emotional reward/ or loss. Those who invest much in being a fan should be totally excused for any response, whether emotional or appearing "idiotic" to others(a misnomer term, as idiocy relates to intelligence, not emotion)---as a fan ....its personal---not business (reverse Godfather reference-lol)
