When was the last time Marquette played Mich St.?

Moderators...perhaps in the box at the top of the screen that has the game info, perhaps (at least for non-conference opponents) there could be a "The Last Time" that the two teams played (even if it was in 1958) and show the final score of that game?

I certainly hope that if we play Carolina in Round 2, it's not close to what happened last time. Julius Peppers was a monster in that game against us.

You were pretty close with 1958.

From the Michigan St. athletic site's game preview:
Quote
Michigan State leads the all-time series with Marquette, 30-23. In the only previous meeting in the NCAA Tournament, Michigan State defeated Marquette, 74-69, in the first round in 1959. That game was also held in North Carolina (Raleigh). Tom Izzo has never coached against Marquette. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 1959 NCAA Tournament.
Quote
The two schools have not met since clashing in the 1959 NCAA Tournament in Raleigh, N.C. Although it was a first-round game, it was also the Mideast Regional semifinal. The Spartans jumped out to a 29-4 lead over Marquette and managed to hold the lead down the stretch to advance to the Regional Finals, 74-69. Bob Anderegg led the Spartans with 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting, while Horace Walker scored 20 points. Johnny Green had a team-high 18 rebounds for MSU and scored 14 points.

We could try to put that info in the box on top.. bottom line is we're just fans like you and have the same resources at our disposal as you to find the info.  If you know of a place that lists such records, please let me know and we'll try to add the information.

Thanks for the info, I blindly threw 1958 out there.

I wasn't sure if the MU media guide had this info or if, as you found, an article/internet site with a game preview had some type of info. Obviously not a necessity, but I always find it interesting that we haven't played a school like Mich St in almost 50 years, even though we're both in the Midwest and both have good basketball tradition.

The '59 Mid-East regional finals were at Northwestern in Evanston.  After losing to MSU, we got clobbered by Kentucky in the consolation game.  I was there.
